Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. 

Is he the only one being charged?  I could see two or three people being charged.  Pretty much anyone that handled the gun before the incident.

A "weapons specialist" is also being charged with the same.

So it looks like both are being charged with 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter. One is involuntary manslaughter, and the other is involuntary manslaughter involving a firearm. In New Mexico they can be charged with both, and then the grand jury can decide which charge to indict each of them on, or not to indict at all. From what I'm reading, both charges carry 18 month sentences and a hefty fine, but the firearm enhancement makes it a mandatory 5 year sentence if found guilty.

I would guess a plea deal happens and nobody goes to jail.

I can see that, I can also see a plea deal with jail time, neither would surprise me.

Does that mean they presented the evidence to a grand jury and the grand jury said there is not enough evidence to support the charges?

I only half paid attention to it because it is all disappointing to me.  If I followed right he could be charged again and the other person charged did not have her charges dropped.  At this point, it is not making much sense to me unless they are going to charge someone else with a higher crime and/or they have new evidence.

The article I read said prosecutors dropped the charges without prejudice after "new facts" came available. Apparently whatever the new facts are will require more forensics and the forensics will not be completed in time for Baldwin's manslaughter trial.

The fact that the case was dismissed in that manner still allows for charges to be brought against Baldwin again if they choose to after the new facts and forensics are completed.

And the new facts are the gun was defective. The trigger control was not working properly and the gun had worn joints. The defect found in the gun could cause the gun to fire without pressure being applied to the trigger. Baldwin has said he did not pull the trigger and this supports his story.

Still sounds fishy to me.  I would like to see demonstrations of this gun firing without pressure being applied to the trigger and what has to be done to the gun to make it fire.
