Two Teams Headed In Opposite Directions!

6A McCracken County (1-6) at 5A South Warren (5-1)

The struggling Mustangs will travel about 2.5 hours east to take on a very good Spartan team fresh off a strong rivalry win.  These two teams have never played each other before, which isn’t all that surprising since McCracken County has only been playing football since 2013 and South Warren only been playing football since 2011.

Last Week:  McCracken County fell hard at home 51-20 to a pretty talented Daviess County team.  According to @Brown, Daviess County earned a running clock in this game and had 300 yards offense AT THE HALF.  McCracken’s worst record in school history through 7 games is 2017 where they were 3 and 4 and would go on to go undefeated through the district but fall against Daviess County in the second week of the playoffs.  This team doesn’t have that feel.  Not sure what has happened but hope the best for Coach Clark.

South Warren earned a terrific rivalry win over Bowling Green 36-7 holding BG to only 63 yards total offense and 5 first downs.  QB Caden Veltcamp was really good going 17 for 28 for 202 yards and 3 TDs vs no INTs.  SR WR Mason Willingham was also really good with 7 catches for 78 yards and 2 TDs.  South is now set up in really good position to run the table in the regular season at least.

This Week:  Even though these teams have never played, South Warren is clearly on the up tick while this may be as down as I’ve ever seen McCracken County.  Look for similar numbers at best for the McCracken County offense, who struggled against Daviess County’s defense.  IMO South may come out a bit sluggish in the first series but after that South names the score in this game.  What say you?

I was very disappointed with McCracken (their offense in particular)- Daviess could have scored 80 in a full game.  I know Daviess would score at will, but thought McCracken would get more than 13 until the end of the game.  I think DC punted once.  Once it got to 44-13 in the 3rd I left.  Of course I would say Daviess has one of the best offenses in the state.  But their defense is average at best.   Not that it will be needed, but SW has a much better defense than Daviess and a good offense (although probably not as efficient as Daviess).  That said, SW should shut them down and give themselves easy scoring opportunities.  Landslide victory here.

53-8 SW.

Based upon past performance of both teams, I would expect South to have a running clock by the middle of the 2nd quarter. I think South puts the JV in the entire 2nd half and McCracken gets a score. McCracken will probably have less than 10 yards rushing against the starters, but may get more in the 2nd half.

South typically does not try to intentionally run up the score. So, I would look for a final score around 41-7.

I have underestimated a few teams and overestimated others this year. It's hard to predict scores unless both teams have played similar opponents. I know South will win, the question is by how much.

Unless South just has a big letdown from BG week, the Spartans shouldn't have trouble with this week.

At least some talk around the McCracken County program is there are some pretty big issues within the program and surrounding the program. Many are not happy.

Other than losing all but one game, who's talking and what are the issues?

Number are down big time from the last year Jackson was here, and the entire middle school system is a far cry what what it once was. Now who's fault is a different question but there are issues around the program.

I agree on the Middle School football program trying to have one team from 3 schools seems complicated.

That's how it is now with Louisville Catholic grade schools. Teams are made  of multiple schools since numbers have dropped over the years. More complicated but it is what it is.
