If Highlands can go 10-0 and beat CovCath, I don’t think they care in the slightest who the other nine teams on the schedule are…

I agree with the beating Cov Cath part, but if they go 10-0 and lose in the third round of the playoffs, Highlands fans will not be happy over the long haul. It might make them happy for a year because it will be seen as a step forward but Highlands fans want appearances in state title games and championships and need that to happen to be happy.

The players loved it!  When a defense player got to add his name to the can, the team went crazy & looked for the can to spike the ball in.  It may be stupid to you, but it wasn’t about you.  2020 season was quiet in general due to covid, so anything to add excitement & fun was a plus to an already season of no ozone, fans, limited number of players on sidelines, etc

Those district games would be 3-4 trips a season. They went to BOWLING GREEN this year. It's a perception thing that the move to the correct class lessens their program. Travel to Corbin was a result of that & maybe even Boyle & Paducah too. 

You are correct the previous coach wanted to move to the correct class and he was told by the powers to be that it wasn’t his decision. 
 If it is now the current coach’s decision, well there you have it….. Egg on the powers to be face for not listening to one coach’s reasoning (who was a HHS football alum & coach of 20+ years at HHS) and then listening to another coach who would probably have the same reasons for the decision……the team.

Never said it was about me. I simply stated my opinion. It’s not personal for me like it clearly is for you. I’ll move on.

Exactly. As I said above, third round of the playoffs will be no different than being in 5A.

I said that Kentucky football is better when HHS is relevant.  Not dominant.  If any team goes from irrelevant to relevant - particularly a past powerhouse - that elevates the state of pigskin in the Bluegrass.

 

I would say Highlands is relevant. They simply are not dominate like they use to be. It’s not like they are losing to bad teams. So they are relevant, just not dominant. 

I believe they have been in every game other than Ryle with opportunities for a W in the 4th quarter.  Stated earlier some believe they got Dixies best performance. The Birds have not put it together yet.  Hopefully they correct the course.   I think 5A could be had from any of the 4 seeds in this district.  Time will tell.

Anyone watching football the last several years knew changes needed to be made.  Sphire may not be the answer, but the prior situation could not go on like it was.  BW was a very good football coach, but not all coaches make good head coaches.  Things got stale and there was an unwillingness to make changes.

They've played those teams previously correct? Some of the third round 5A matches could be just as difficult..... Frederick Douglas, Scott County, Pulaski, ....

My comments about going 4A had nothing to do with either coach’s ability to be a head coach.  It was about who was the decision maker on the previous alignment and who may be the decision maker on the next one.

I have been told more than once that the plan was to play where they belonged in the next alignment.  Truth be told, I think the main reason many did not want to see a move down was the appearance it would give to others around the state and not wanting to be separated from CovCath.  Sure they could still play, but it would not have the same meaning as it currently does.
