Not enough players from Eastern Ky. on the team.

I believe that 6 out of 36 is pretty good representation for Eastern Ky.

I would like to congradulate Shawn Grim from Johnson Central. If anyone watched him play this season than they know he is 1st team on anyone's ballot. He had great games against everyone he played even Cov. Cath. I believe he proved to be one awesome high school football player.

Congrats to those that made it, and those that should HAVE.

So as I see it, there are 36 players on the All-BGP team.

Two players from St. X, two from Trinity, and two from Male were among the seven from Jefferson County who made it.

Three players from Fayette County made the team.

CovCath had five of the eight players from NKY named to the team.

There were six players from EKY, seven from WKY, and three from central Kentucky.

The biggest gripe I'm reading is that five players from CovCath made the team. This coming mostly from Louisville people who feel there should have been a better Louisville representation.

7 from the Louisville area (not counting Hardin and Oldham Counties), 8 from northern Kentucky, seven from west Kentucky, and six from eastern Kentucky. I'm not seeing the favortism of one area over the other.

Yes, I was on the voting panel. Like every other year, I can tell you there was a lot of time and discussion put into creating the team. Several players I felt should have been on the team weren't named. There were some people on the team I helped put there that others didn't agree with. But when all was said and done, if you didn't agree with a pick, you had to have a better reason than 'because.'

Have I seen all of the players play? No. Has anyone? Unlikely. But I do know every geographical region of the state was represented by people who have seen dozens of the teams in their area play.

There is no perfect all-state team. The AP is made up of media. The C-J is coaches. BGP is a mixture of media and followers. Everyone has different criteria.

I won't say the BGP is far and away the best "All-State" team out there, but I will say the selection process is the best. You have to defend your picks or defend why someone else's should not be there.

When it comes to the C-J team, I know for a fact there are certain areas of the state that band together to vote for only those players from that area. Is that fair to players in other parts of the state? Nope. But it does happen.

If you feel like there aren't enough players from your team or your part of the state on the team, I really don't know what to say. Had there been five Trinity players or five St. X players on the team, I'm sure the NKY or EKY people would be making the same posts the people from Louisville are making now.

At the end of the day, I think the All-BGP Team is the most unique one out there because of the All-Athlete team.

I would have thought Beaumont would have been a perfect fit in the Athlete catagory.

Scribe, thanks for explaining the methodology used to select this team. Personally, I find it quite interesting that the regional numbers worked out as well-balanced as they did, since I presume there are no mandated quotas established beforehand based on areas of the state or classes of competition.

The thing I like best about this selection process is that you don't just vote and run, but "You have to defend your picks or defend why someone else's should not be there." I'm sure the cross-examination interrogation was heated, but, in the end, it should give the best system of checks and balances against regional or class cronyism.

I also love the way you honor the two-way players...that is unique.

Congratulations on to all those selected as the cream of the cream! :thumb:

ATH - Kaelin Ammons, Franklin County

I don't quite understand this. I have no problem with Ammons being on the team he and Petrino were the top two quarterbacks in the state.

But I didn't think the Athlete part of the of the All State was for second team. I don't understand Ammons being an Athlete pick when he clearly is a quarterback.

This brings a complete different swing to the athlete section, for kids who were beat out by another kid.

Golfer, I think that Ammons was also selected on the BGP Athlete Team in 2005. From what I understand, he is much more than just a QB. As a DB, he had four interceptions in 2006 and was also Franlin County's 2nd leading tackler. This should fully qualify him as an outstanding two-way player and not a 2nd team offensive player who was arbitrarily shoved into the athlete catagory.

If that's the case that is fine with me but I do wonder if Ammons had beaten out Petrino, would Petrino not be on the list?

Since Petrino did not play on defense or special teams, to the best of my knwledge, I don't think he would have met the criteria for the Athlete Team. That is just my opinion though...the Scribe would probably be better able to confirm whether that is true or not.

I am disappointed that Wenquel Graves of Bardstown and Billy Jackson of Bethlehem did not make the "athlete" section; I do not believe there were two finer all-around athletes in the state, all phases of the game. Jackson's dominance at linebacker in addition to running back was well-documented.

However, as with previous posters I will say there is more than likely not an undeserving player on the squad.

However, I am of course very pleased with naming Coach Steve Hart as COY.

I am going to try to address all the comments about the BGP Team:

1. On Mercer, we took a hard look at their team but no one could come to a consensus on any one or two players from Mercer and the comments in this thread from Mercer people echo the same. Mercer had a very nice football team but I am not sure they had any All BGP Players.

2. There is a lot of talk about five from CCH. Consider each player on the team. Popham was 1st team CJ, AP, and BGP so I don't think anyone can argue with this pick. Flynn was 1st AP and BGP. Also, he was a 4 year starter at CCH (which is really saying something). Castaneda is a lock down corner and a three year starter who will probably play at one of the highest two levels of college football. Sutton is a D1 player if he decides to play college football. Also on Sutton, since the AP and CJ don't have TEs on their team it is hard to compare apples to sexy oranges. Brown could be a poster boy for our All Athlete Team.

3. oldram, I would like you to start your own thread on players you think should have made the team and please make your case for them.

4. On James Sheppard of Christian County, no one nominated him. Remember, anyone can nominate a player and some of the best nominations come from relatives because their heart is in it. Chicks dig Scars, in the future please nominate anyone you deem worthy.

5. LSU and Diogenes, no one questioned us last year when there was only one NKY player on the team. I believe we had four NKY players in 2004 (three D1 players and Menetrey who plays RB for Georgetown) and three in 2003 (two D1 players and a D1 baseball player). You guys say NKY bias, we say good year for talent in NKY.

6. sportsfan57, who are you speaking of?

7. kele_okereke, you need to make a case for individual players from EKY?

8. woodsrider, Scribe did a good job explaining the process we use. Everyone has an opinion on which team is best but I firmly believe our process is the best.

9. FBALL, Beaumont is good in every position and that is why he is our player of the year.

10. Golfer, Ox nailed you before I could respond. And to answer your question it would have been QB or nothing for Petrino.

11. I have some constructive criticism for the AP, you need to limit your teams to 11 or 12 per team. 17 players on the 1st team Defense is way too many. It looks like the AP is trying to make all the people happy and it is not fair to compare the AP to the CJ or the BGP if you are going to have that many players on one team. Again, it is apples to sexy oranges.

12. This one goes out to the AP and the CJ, I think you should name TEs and not just WRs. And, with all three teams and your HM I think you named half of the players in KY. My point again is comparing the BGP Team (which names only 36 players) to the AP and CJ that name well over 100 is a tall task.

I will do my best to address any questions about the All BGP Team I just ask that everyone keep it positive.

There's no doubt in my mind that Grim deserved to be on the team. People tried to use Johnson Central's schedule as an excuse all year long, but when he continued to put up the big numbers against teams such as Ashland, Rockcastle Co. and Cov. Catholic I think he erased all doubt in most people's mind. I'm sure you just overlooked him, but being the big Eagle fan that you are I know you wouldn't want to forget to congratulate Blake Johnson on making the team also. He had a great year as well, on both sides of the ball.

I think Louisville has 8 players, (7 from Jefferson County and one from Oldham). You forgot Joe Scott from Central and Joe Gamsky from South Oldham.

Did I miss something? Has Oldham County now merged with Jefferson County?

What is the name of the supplying company on your gas & electric and water bills?
