Both teams lost last week and will be looking for their first win.

I’m very curious to see how Cov Cath responds. Lot of things to work on and fix especially the offense which had trouble moving the ball. Need better blocking from our O-line and create some holes. Too much east/west running, not enough north running. Holtz had a few good passes, just needs more time to throw and our center to quit snapping the ball over his head. I think Reed Hummel will be good at RB, he had some good runs/jukes against Elder. 

CCH front seven on defense will be good and will be the difference in this game against Belfry. I like how they made the necessary adjustments at halftime and held Elder to 7 points in the 2nd half. Need a little work in the secondary, hopefully Zion Mason gets to play this week. 
 

Don’t know much about Belfry but CCH should win this game easily. I think Belfry will struggle to score points against our defense. Also think coach Eviston will light a fire under the offense and get them to score some points this week. I wouldn’t of liked practices this week after last week performance.

It's been known in the past that mountain teams has a hard time beating NKY teams. Just ask JC when FT. Highlands and Cov Cath were in the same class. Cov Cath run into a buzzsaw GCL in Elder and Belfry seems slightly down, well at least from the film I watched. 

The Colonels will be putting some miles on Blue 81 and Old Blue this week when they head down to Pike County to take on host Belfry in the Pike County Bowl on Friday.

Cov Cath and Belfry both started their seasons off this past Friday with a tic in the loss column, with the Colonels losing 28-6 to Cincinnati Elder, and Belfry falling 55-13 to the Pulaski County Maroons in Somerset.

Belfry came out looking strong in the early moments of the game, marching the ball right down the field and scoring the first touchdown of the game on their opening drive, but then Pulaski scored the next two touchdowns, quieting many of the Pirates fans who made the trip to Somerset. After another TD by Belfry, the rest of the game was all Maroons, as they racked up over 350 passing yards and nearly another 250 yards on the ground against the Pirates. Belfry's star running back-turned quarterback, Isaac Dixon, posted a 100 yard game despite the loss, rushing 13 times for 120 yards and both of the team's touchdowns, accounting for more than half of the team's total 234 yards in the game.

The Colonels' game at Elder was a story of two halves. Starting things off at The Pit, Cov Cath's defense found themselves on their heels in most of the first half. Elder's offensive game focused heavily on getting the ball in the hands of Drew Ramsey, and between their unbalanced play sets and their potent no-huddle offense, the plan worked very well for the Panthers, who had 236 passing yards in the first half. The halftime score was 21-0 in Elder's favor. In the second half the Colonels were able to make some effective adjustments. The Cov Cath offense more than doubled their first half yardage, outgaining Elder by nearly 30 yards, and their defense held Elder's passing game to a mere 10 yards in the half. Both teams found pay dirt once in the second half, and the score was 28-6 after four quarters in Price Hill.

Both of these teams are undoubtedly fired up to get their first win of the season. Will Belfry be able to get their first W in their second-straight game against a 5A opponent? Or will the Colonels have the miscues ironed out of their game and make 8-hour round trip for their first win of the season?

Johnson Central had Cov Cath's number for a while there, without question. The Golden Eagles ended the Colonels' season in 2008, 2009, and 2010.

The Colonels have seen limited competition against eastern Kentucky teams considering the fact that their football program is currently in its 55th season. This will be the first time the Colonels and the Pirates have faced off, but here are Cov Cath's all time W-L records against eastern and northeastern Kentucky opponents:

I remember that 1993 game against Leslie County. Tim Couch their big QB, no one gave CCH a chance against him and CovCath wins the game 33-6 . Good times. 

All CCH. I think we use this game to work on airing it out and giving Adam some more pass attempts.

CovCath should win comfortably. Cool of them to go to Belfry and play. 

I think we'll find out this week that Pond Creek is just wide enough for a boat race.

Belfry needs someone other than Isaac Dixon to show up. CovCath can't be allowed to tee off on him all night. Whether or not the game gets out of hand comes down to the Colonels' growth on offense, because I expect the defense to keep the Pirates pinned down.

I’m expecting us to bounce back. Long-term, I actually think the offense will be better this year since Holtz is a much better athlete and runner than Jacob and whatever you lose with Jacob’s downfield passing, we can even out since our receivers will be much better running after the catch this year. 

It probably won’t be this week, but in the games we need, I expect Holtz to be featured as a runner in 2 TE sets to hammer teams like we did late last year with Caleb.
