Agree to disagree. Granted St X is the team to beat. Elder has a schedule that is unmatched and will be a tough out come playoff time. Cov Cath will live to fight another day in NKY. They have some talented players for sure.

Was Elder methodical? Absolutely. If we're just talking the first half, I might agree with you on "beat down"...but if the second half stats linked above were correct, Cov Cath won the half when it came to offensive yardage and first downs, both. They also scored just as many touchdowns as Elder did in the second half, in addition to converting on more 3rd downs that half and having the same 4th down stops.

I don't know where "disrespectful" comes into play, regardless, but Elder is a school of 800 boys and Cov Cath is a school of 500 boys. They sure as heck oughta be able to come up with better athletes when they've got over 50% more students to pick them from. And when they're playing at home in a stadium that happens to be one of the biggest venues for a home field advantage in the country, I'll go right ahead and say that I wasn't overwhelmed by Elder either. No disrespect intended. They beat us soundly.

I thought the defensive staff got worked in the first half. Elder ran a bunch of unbalanced and we didn't adjust and were outnumbered when they would throw bubble screens. Credit to Elder, they made us tackle in space and when they have better athletes, that's not going to be a good result. When we adjusted in the second half, got lined up correctly, and made them run the ball more instead of throwing it to the perimeter in space, we started to tighten up defensively. 

Even though we certainly had our chances, Elder was the much better team.

Offensively I'd like to think it would have been a little different with Zion and Benke playing. We need more playmakers on offense to along with Agee and I thought Hummel did some good things tonight too. It was a continuation of last year where we just didn't have enough guys with juice with the ball in their hands. Like someone mentioned earlier, Holtz is a really good athlete and as I think the season goes on we're going to rely on his legs more and more. No shame in losing to Elder and I though we competed hard all game. 

It didn't sound very competitive on the CCH webcast.   At least, it appears, that they came through injury free.   Learn and move on.

Not at the Pit when the Colonels are breaking in a new quarterback. Things to clean up for sure, but also many things to build on.

Are you sure you want to play that card? Been there done that, it doesn't change the outcome.

Clearly Elder was the better team, but it wasn't like CCH didn't have any chances.  If you are the Colonels, you can't have a drive start at the Elder 5 and not come away with points.

I was disappointed in the play calling on that drive.  It was like the Colonels were ok to settle with a 28-6 score and just trying to get the game over with.  

In other news, you can't have your senior center firing snaps over the QB's head multiple times.  That has to get cleaned up and cleaned up fast.  

Our special teams needs a lot of work.  We missed our only extra point and the kicker struggled to get the kickoffs to the twenty yard line.  That causes a huge discrepancy in field position.

What a great thing to be back in the stands full throttle at the pit..we knew Elder would be a game..I honestly thought it would have been a little closer though.  Guys came out flat.  Realizing it's the first game, we can pick it apart, because there was as much good as there was bad.   This team needs to gel..become a team.  We need all guys back and get buy in from each and every one of them.  We need guys that want and will block up front, guys to fill the right gaps, secondary to stop big plays, backs to run hard not give up.  The QB situation was first night jitters, there is options there, and things will get better. 

We focus now on Belfry.

 

This just wasn’t the typical CCH I am used to seeing. First off the kicking game looked poorish which is surprising, missed extra point and the couple punts were very short. Secondly the center struggled to get decent snaps to the QB, which lead to plays looking disjointed and over before they started. Lastly I seen a lot of missed tackles which isn’t what any NKY opponent of CCH’s can say. For their sakes I hope it was just first game jitters and they clean that stuff up.
