The lid-lifter for Covington Catholic Football's 2021 edition is this Friday in Price Hill against one of the traditional GCL powerhouse programs. Elder may be nearing 20 years since their last Ohio state football championship, but they're by no means a slouch. And there's no denying that having to travel to play at The Pit definitely makes for even more of a challenge for the Colonels.

Friday's game will make for the 6th time these two teams have met on the football field, and the series record stands at 5 games to 0 in Elder's favor.

The Colonels looked solid in their scrimmage against a questionable Simon Kenton squad this past Friday, but there are many kinks to be worked out with a new starting quarterback for Cov Cath and multiple key players who were absent from the scrimmage on Friday.

Who wins this one?

  • I remember this one, vividly.    This one was played the Friday after 9/11 (RIP Willie).   CCH was scheduled to play Ryle.  Ryle cancelled the game and held a peace service at the school.  LaSalle and

Series record:

2003: Elder 49-21
2004: Elder 10-9
2006: Elder 13-3
2007: Elder 35-6
2008: Elder 56-7

Elder very good offensive team. I'm interested in this game since St.X plays them next month. Hope the Colonels do well but this will be a tough one to win.

I've heard a couple of relatively knowledgeable folks in the Elder camp who have told me, "Elder is GOING to be scoring plenty in this game. If they want to win the game, Cov Cath is just going to have to find a way to score more times than Elder."

You making the drive to Price Hill @Colonels_Wear_Blue?

I'm gonna have to make sure I can get off work mid-afternoon so I can make the drive up from Louisville in time, but I'm planning on being there, yeah.

First game of the year people. Anything can happen. Both teams will have first game jitters. So Elder is suppose to have a great offense. CovCath is suppose to have a good defense, let’s hope everyone plays that was absent from the scrimmage last week (Wilson and Mason) come to mind. Never count out a Eviston lead team. Not many gave us a chance against LaSalle a few years back and we walloped them. Colonels are on a 5 game winning streak against Ohio schools —twice against both Kings in Mason and Columbus St Francis Desales and once over LaSalle.
As long as the Colonels come out strong and don’t get freaked out by the “Pit”environment then we may have a chance. I will take the Colonels and let them get the streak against Ohio schools to 6.

I'm always gonna pull for the KY. team. It's their turn to win a close one.

CCH- 31

Elder- 30

I am going to be rooting hard for the Colonels in this one but give me the Panthers.

CCH will again be really good but give me the Boys from the West side. Is Ramsey still the Coach? Heck of a Ball Coach right there. He beat some really good Highlands teams back in the day.

I’m going to take Elder by 10, hopefully I’m wrong.

I think we should be pretty competitive up front and that will especially be so with Wilson. Like someone earlier mentioned, we’re going to have to score and generate explosive plays on offense. It comes down to 2 things for me:

1. Can we push the ball down the field vertically?

2. Can our backs (and Holtz) make guys miss at the second and third level?

Is the Aiden Jones kid playing any Defense or just Offensive Line? Is this a temporary thing?
