Frederick Douglass vs. St. Xavier (Scrimmage) Predictions/Updates - Cancelled

Frederick Douglass will host St. Xavier for a game like scrimmage on Friday at 7:00 and costs $10.00 at gate. Link is to NFHS to watch game but requires a subscription. I remember Frederick Douglass hosted Trinity in 2019 and treated it like the superbowl and looks like doing the same this time. Should be a good test for both teams before the season.

I would like to address some of the points @Hungover_in_Andoververy correctly pointed out from the Trinity scrimmage in 2019. Yes Douglass made a big deal out of the scrimmage, but they try to make th

If I remember correctly, Trinity went in there and beat them pretty good.

I don’t know if St. X will do that but I think St. X’s defense will lead the way to a pretty dominating performance. FD’s star players will make some big plays but I don’t think they’ll make enough on offense to be able to move the ball consistently. For St. X offensively, I’m looking to see how they can run the ball. Seems odd to say about a St. X team, but they have a young OL and it will be interesting to see them perform against another opponent.

At the end of the day you want keep getting better and both teams to come out of the contest healthy.

Is this a controlled scrimmage? Or more game down & distance? Thinking of tuning in

Pretty sure game like. Back when scrimmaged Trinity they actually ran through a banner held by the cheerleaders. Plus charging $10.00 to get in. I'd be ticked if paid that much and was like a controlled scrimmage.

It’s a 2 day event and can get a ticket for $7 bucks online. Douglass is hosting this jamboree for 2 days thus the cost for both days. The game with St. X will be a normal game for 3 quarters then JV in 4th. I hope this answers some questions about the game. Also, when Trinity came two years ago they let Douglass know that they would probably bring 1000 fans or more and should be a good fundraiser. If I remember correctly Douglass made more from that scrimmage than any other home game other than Scott Co.

Douglass will be missing from their young OL their starting center (ankle surgery) and their starting right guard who rolled an ankle yesterday and will be out as well.

Hope they have speedy recovery. I think LB Jaxon Panariello will be out for St.X since he was out for intrasquad scrimmage and not sure when he will return so hopefully sooner than later. He was leading tackler last year.

2 great teams - should be a good one.  @Tigerpride94Ive watchedJaxon on hudl - very impressed.  Great speed and agility in the OLB.  2 really good defenses and 2 of the best WR’s in the state.  Key can absolutely dominate cornerbacks.  Game is at the farm?  If Owensboro wasn’t playing Caldwell (moved back to 8 pm central) I would be all over this.  Freddie will be a state title contender in 5A and X will be in 6A.  @16thBBall FanI hope Freddie andOwensboro meet in the championship for the rubber match!

Excited to see Micah Carter play. I believe last year he was battling through some injuries so didn't get a lot of games played. Looking forward to see him play pretty much an entire game.

Ran through a banner? Seriously? I expect FD to be similar to years past, hyped. The only difference this year is they don't have possible NFL roster guys on the OL.  They just never seem to get over the hump.

X will be as good as anyone up front. They should dominate the line of scrimmage. I am looking forward to this scrimmage. This game will give you a good idea on what can be a potential weakness for each team. Can FD control the line of scrimmage? Can X match up athletically with big time skill?

Should have a good idea of both teams after tonight.

Yes on banner. I went back and watched video against Trinity that was on Prepspin and they ran through tunnel of cheerleaders and banner. Guess they was practicing their entrance to be ready for season. Lol.

Remember that game like yesterday! Definitely was a big buzz on this side of town. Then Douglass kicked off, and it was all downhill from there lol. The Rocks ran that sucker back, and the home side of the stadium realized what time it was. So, after the untouched opening kickoff score, the Douglass offense lined up. Mind you, this is when you have Walker Parks (currently a starting OL for Clemson), Devin Neal (I believeeee he is starting in Baylor's secondary), Jager Burton (frosh OL for UK), Dekel Crowdus (frosh wideout for UK) starting for Douglass! Among other players currently on smaller collegiate teams.

The Trinity nose guard had a field day, firing off the ball and instantly in the backfield ALL day. I don't think Douglass even got off a pass more than 15 yards downfield. Urban lore has it, that was the event that set off Crowdus transferring to IMG that season.

When he realized the QB at that time was not a vertical thrower, he wasn't too enticed by potentially having to run screens and short routes all season too compensate.  This was on full display during the championship game that season vs CovCath. Had Douglass been able to stretch the field vertically and attack their secondary with a deep threat WR such as Crowdus, then maybe you reduce M. Mayer's MVP performance for the Colonels and force the safeties to back up.

Long story less long, yes, Big T had their way with FDHS that day. Today will be another festive atmosphere I am sure, yet I think the on-field product for this scrimmage vs. the Tigers will be slightly elevated. I wish they could have played the game they scheduled vs. X last season, that would have been great.

Douglass is a team somewhat hamstrung by having to schedule and play all the Fayette Co public school paper weights, rather than being able to schedule more challenging teams from Jefferson Co., Warren Co., etc. Trinity really provided a night's worth of glaring faults that they were able to address immediately. However, their kids routinely run over their scheduled foes and can become prone to over-confidence during the month of November.  Glad that St. X is coming down the road to provide another big time challenge to the tenants of the Farm!
