I actually get this.  You are playing one of the premier teams in the nation in Trinity, you better be hyped - great opportunity.  I would expect the same vs a top notch X squad.

I heard for tonight's scrimmage Bryan Station at Lexington Catholic, LC will treat this like a real game... as far as running out the gate, carrying the US, KY and LC flag and pre-game festivities. I say why not. Kids had their seasoned shortened last year due to covid, less family members in the stance, no student cheer section, so why not go all out while they can. This season looks like it will kick-off the right way, but future games are uncertain.

When he realized the QB at that time was not a vertical thrower, he wasn't too enticed by potentially having to run screens and short routes all season too compensate.  This was on full display during the championship game that season vs CovCath. Had Douglass been able to stretch the field vertically and attack their secondary with a deep threat WR such as Crowdus, then maybe you reduce M. Mayer's MVP performance for the Colonels and force the safeties to back up.

Long story less long, yes, Big T had their way with FDHS that day. Today will be another festive atmosphere I am sure, yet I think the on-field product for this scrimmage vs. the Tigers will be slightly elevated. I wish they could have played the game they scheduled vs. X last season, that would have been great.

 

Douglass is a team somewhat hamstrung by having to schedule and play all the Fayette Co public school paper weights, rather than being able to schedule more challenging teams from Jefferson Co., Warren Co., etc. Trinity really provided a night's worth of glaring faults that they were able to address immediately. However, their kids routinely run over their scheduled foes and can become prone to over-confidence during the month of November.  Glad that St. X is coming down the road to provide another big time challenge to the tenants of the Farm!

That Freddie team was a top notch team but was limited by the throwing ability of the QB.  Trinity was able to T off (no pun intended)on the run that year as was CovCath.  Cornett helps solve that puzzle, although not nearly as mobile as the previous QB.  This game tonight will feature the defenses, although I think Cornett to Key will hook up on some big plays.  I expect Mehki to also have some big plays.  I think this is probably a 2-1 or 2-2 game with varsity.

I would like to address some of the points @Hungover_in_Andoververy correctly pointed out from the Trinity scrimmage in 2019. Yes Douglass made a big deal out of the scrimmage, but they try to make the kids feel important and enjoy and have fun playing the game. I personally think they way they make the kids feel and allow them to have fun playing the game is the main reason kids want to play at Douglass. (You will win and have fun) What kid would not want to experience that. The game never was close it was 41-7 when the teams first string was on the field. Trinity was by far the class of 6A again that season. Yes they lost to Male in Sept. by 3 in double OT but they defeated Male by 22 when it counted in the state final.

Yes Douglass gave up 41 points in 3 quarters and was dominated on both side of the line. However, when you look at that 2019 Trinity team in their 9 games vs. KY teams they averaged 47 points per game and only allowed 7.8 points per game on the march to another 6A state title.

The 2019 Douglass team went on that season to lose in the 5A title game vs. Covington Catholic 14-7 yes without Crowdus. The Douglass team held Cov. Cath to 14 points they came into the game averaging 40.7 per game. The 2019 Douglass team went on from that scrimmage beat down to average 40.8 points per game and only allowed 6.5 points per game and actually went 30 straight quarters not allowing a point. That included putting a running clock on Scott Co. @Hungover_in_Andover is correct it does hurt Douglass being required to play all of the city pubic schools (are currently 19-0 vs all city schools including Lex. Cath. and LCA as well)

Douglass based on district and required city games they only have 1 game a year to add. The staff tries to schedule the best the can. Some examples are Trinty scrimmage 2019 as well Lexington Catholic. They tried to play X last year did pickup North Hardin, LCA, and Ballard when all city schools used Covid to not have to play. Douglass first game in school history was at Danville who went on to win the State 2A title that year. They have scheduled Boyle Co. for their one game this year and are scrimmaging X. Saint X I think will be for sure will be top 3 in the state in 6A. Douglass will be as good as their O-line can come along. Their center and right guard will be out with ankle injuries tonight I would say X will be tough to handle tonight. Best of luck to both teams and most of all I hope no one is injured or no Covid issues.

Any St. Xavier fans headed up to Lexington there is bad lightening and thunder happening right now. Hopefully it gets out before long and does not delay the scrimmage.

How does Lex Cath measure up tonight against the new look triple option Defenders?

Game still on for 7 EST?

As of now but I think it may be delayed until around 7:30-7:45 just guessing.

I just pulled in parking lot after sitting in traffic from wreck on I-75. So far, this isn't going well. Chalk it up to Friday the 13th.
