GOREDDEVILS Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Prayers for Former Russell coach and KHSAA Hall of Famer Ivan McGlone as he is in hospice care. This is a tough day for the Flatwoods/Russell/Bellefonte area. 1
Tigerpride94 Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 🙏🙏🙏 for Coach McGlone and his family! 1 1
Oldsoreknees Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Coach Ivan McGlone passed away this morning. Coach McGlone was coach at Russell for 38 years. Among his resume is 2 state championships, a career 316-151 record and is #10 on most wins all-time in KHSAA. Coach McGlone coached players, their dads and even their grandfathers. He IS Russell Football. Was a class act and a model to all. It is a sad day in this part of the state. 3
Tones Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Prayers for the repose of Coach McGlone's soul and for the loved ones that he left behind. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen. 2
ATLCat Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Complete class act. I had a chance to sit and talk with him one afternoon back in 2006. At the time I was doing sales and when I mentioned I was from Belfry he made it a point to talk football, gave his respect for Coach Haywood, and joked about how the Semi-Finals game the previous fall made him a nervous wreck. What an impressive and humble man he was! I know one thing, that Russell community lost an icon. 3

Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Here's the full version of that scoreboard picture. Well done. 3
DevilMayCare Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 It's hard to convey Coach McGlone's impact at Russell in a way that does the man justice. Football's been played there since 1922, and he was on the sideline for more than half of the program's all-time wins. When offensive philosophies were changing all around him and armchair quarterbacks criticised the lack of creativity in his offense, he stuck to what he knew… the wing-t. It won him a state championship in two different eras, in 1978 and 2005. He came to Kentucky from West Virginia, where he'd previously been the coach at Vinson High School. He found something in the Russell-Flatwoods community that he liked well enough to stick around for nearly four decades, and the thousands of lives he touched, whether they were players on his practice field, or students in his classroom, benefited from his wisdom. He was a blessing. Rest easy, coach. I'm sure Gloria's happy to see you.
9068 Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Had the pleasure of working a few games for Coach McGlone's teams over the years. Always well coached, played hard, and respectful. Worked for years with a former coach that had coached with him and that gentleman thought the world of Coach McGlone. Rest easy sir! Hope you and Bish are smiling and swapping stories! 1
ChiefSmoke Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Thankful for him that his suffering is over. Thankful for the Friday nights he was on the other sideline, especially when the Royals traveled to Flatwoods. Coach McGlone, those great games, big games, his kindness and friendship... very tough to know those days are over. Those were some of the best days and were great days. The impact he had on others can inspire the rest of us to emulate him. We will miss him, and never forget him. 2
GOREDDEVILS Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 Nice story done on Coach McGlone by WSAZ news Channel 3. https://www.wsaz.com/2021/02/06/ivan-mcglone-passes-away/
Sweeperboy Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 RIP coach from Ft Thomas. Russell had quite the teams back in late 70s and early 80s and we never took an McGlone team for granted.
