St. X vs. Trinity change of venue to St. Xavier

Featured Replies

The game has been announced to be held at St. X since they are home team.

Makes sense. No reason to spend the money on Cardinal Stadium.

I agree.

When was the last time they met in the regular season anywhere other than Cardinal Stadium, both new and old?

Good question. I haven’t seen it in my lifetime.

I did some quick digging. They met at Manual's stadium in 1967, and then old/new Cardinal Stadium every year since. The records below were lifted from louisvillecatholicsports.com.

In that 1967 game, if I remember correctly, St. X QB Paul Karem connected with WR Marty McDermott  a few times for some sizable gains.   In next year's game  X DE Ron Steele late in the game intercepted a quick pitch  or sweep pitch intended for  RB Alan Hennessy to seal the game for X.   Trinity went on to win their first state title later in the  1968 season....under coach Jim Kennedy.   I know Karem (and I think Steele also) went on to play for UK and Hennessy went on to play for Georgia Tech.

At the 20% level which is 12,000 probably wouldn’t cover the cost to use Cardinal Stadium.

I know St. Xavier went a long time without an official on-campus stadium. It looks like at Trinity in 1961 is the only game played at one of the two schools in series history.

That list has at least one error. The game in 1965 was at Manual. I played. It was my senior year.

I'm sure it feels good to be a member of a class that never lost to Trinity. Not many senior classes from St. Xavier can say that.

That is true. '61 was only other time it's been played on a campus.

Was played at Trinity - was more of a field than a stadium in 1961. Only had about 1,000 in 1960 and the schools decided to play a year at the home school and like 5,000 fans showed up. So they went back to bigger venues and so it began

Not to be picky but there are several mistakes in regards to what day of the week the game was played on.

Pretty cool given the circumstances. Hope the Tigers can find a way to keep it close.
