I went out last night and had a lot of discussions about COVID-19 shutdowns

I just bought a golf practice net, new clubs and a swing analyzer. I’ll be putting time in to get my golf game back down to a single digit handicap. I’ve also got a stockpile of bourbon, 2 fresh kegs in the kegerator, and a bunch of meat to smoke. With a lot of stuff to watch on Netflix and a few small projects to do in the house, I’m pretty set and have plenty to keep myself occupied for the next 6-8 weeks.

I know it’s hard but if we can learn one lesson from this, please try to have 3-6 month of expenses saved.

I agree and I also know not everyone makes enough money to put enough into savings for something like this. But everyone should try to going forward.

Without this, you really don't have a financial plan.

Precautions need to be taken, but individuals want to live as close to normal, they should do so. My wife and I went to church this morning with 11 others in our group. Attendance was maybe 65% of the usual number. Which makes sense, a number of people with health issues stayed home, with some others just fearing to go out. After church 11 of us went to eat, the youngest in the group is 63. Of the other 20-24 people at the restaurant, small local establishment, almost everyone was 65 plus. During the week my wife and I went shopping, as did others in our group. I also went to the gym 3 times. In all cases the numbers were down 30-40%. The world will go on, just take precautions.

What you mentioned is all about to end until this is over. Prepare for that.

And what precautions are you taking? Your correct, the world will go on, but without you.

Check back with me in 14 days. Want to check on my friends as well? How about the 125 or more at church or the 2 dozen at the restaurant or all those at the gym? Precautions of hygiene, if your sick stay home or if you are just worried, stay home.

I'm not worried, just concerned.

I want to mention that the minister stated that there are 20,000,000 people in Florida and 77 have the virus. That works out .00000385%. I should have mentioned I am in Florida for the winter. Kentucky’s projected 2020 population is 4,500,000 and has 21 cases, that works out to .00000467%.

Also, if the situation is so bad, shouldn’t Disney World have closed back in mid-week instead of staying open until today? The same for schools in Ky. If it was so bad, they should have close mid-week, not at the end of the week.

Sorry, not attacking you with this, but those are all silly comments. At some point every place experiencing a crisis had 21 or 77 cases. Italy and Spain at one point had 21 and 77 cases. How many cases do they have now? It is obvious the numbers escalate quickly once cases start showing up. To ignore what has happened elsewhere is dangerous.

You realize the low number of cases here is because a VERY limited number of people have been tested, right?

I realize the numbers will go up before all this is over. I do believe we have a grip on the situation with the precautions that are being taken. Will this become as bad as the regular flu, for a lack of a better description? The flu has killed 22,000 this flu season. Why did we not go to the same lengths to stop the flu, as what is being taken for covid-19? I believe I can go about life by using the prescribed precautions.

I was about to say the same thing until I noticed your post. The thing is, this virus is new, we didn't have a test for it until a month or so ago. Then it takes time to manufacture enough tests for everyone that needs one. The numbers of infected are gonna go up significantly as more people are able to get tested, you already know that though. My thoughts on this have changed completely since I first heard about it. It's bad, it's bad for everyone in the world and its gonna take some time to build things back up once it's over.

Its interesting, but not surprising, that those of us over 60, because of our experience and up-bringing are the ones who are still trying to live a normal life, and its the younger generation, who are not the endangered species here, who are barricading themselves behind closed doors, and drinking the "stop living your lives" cool-aid.

I'm on the verge of hooking my boat to the truck and heading to Counce, Tennessee where those rednecks are still sitting in the shadow of their confederate flags eating bar-b-que, oblivious to the happenings in urban America, and doing a couple of weeks of fishing until this imposed lunacy has run its course.

If I catch this disease and it kills me, it's on me, or maybe I'll fall out of the boat and die in that manner that would be on me too. But, I will have certainly done either on my own terms.
