RPI

I understand that the results will come closer to reality as the season progresses, but at this point Male is at 37, Ballard at 82, and Covington Catholic at 96. I don't believe there are 95 teams in Kentucky better than Covington Catholic.

Does this work the same way as football, where out of state teams records are weighted at .500?

Ashland has played two so far and are scheduled to play three more. Between that and the 16th region games Ashland could win out (obviously they won't) and their RPI take a hit lol.

I don’t care if they seed it or not. Makes no difference to me. I prefer the draw but I don’t really care anymore. Pros and cons for both.

I was just curious if I should care about the RPI or not. For now looks like it is meaningless.

Not presently meaningless but becomes more meaningful with each passing week.

How? What are they using it for? If it isn’t being used for seeding the Sweet 16 it is meaningless to me.

This in itself, causes this rating system to lose all credibility.

Ludicrous!

Just like any computer formulas these won't start getting accurate until the second half or last third of the season. They still won't be right even then, but should at least be credible.

RPI in KHSAA Basketball might be interesting to some but is not important. Has zero influence on District, Region or State.

Until strength of schedule and out of state opponents actual records are integrated, these relative comparisons are silly. Ohio County at #5 while Fern Creek #80, Ballard #82 and Covington Catholic #95. “Come on Man”.

Big RPI matchup tonight. #13 Collegiate vs. #14 St.X. Somebody going to be moving on up and down. Lol.

Are you nervous about this "trap game" for your Tigers?

Collegiate is good so Tigers better not take them lightly. Definitely chance for let down between Trinity and Male. Plus at Collegiate.

What is the purpose of RPI in basketball? Are they going to seed the Sweet 16 and I missed the announcement?

Please God, no....

And hopefully, it will stay that way...

I'm not so sure on that. There is a reason that the khsaa has implemented it in nearly every sport, maybe every sport. They're testing the waters so to speak.

I'm 100% certain you are correct. But it will be - in my opinion - the death of what makes Kentucky HS basketball unique and special in the entire country. In Kentucky, we treasure and relish the fact that it only takes 5 players to take an itty-bitty school to the pinnacle of the state in basketball. Sure, it doesn't happen all that often - but in KY, every HS basketball fan knows who Carr Creek, Inez, Cuba, Brewers, Edmonson County and Paintsville are and they can tell you something about those special years when a little school (like those, and others) rose up and slayed the "giants".

As I said, I'm 100% certain that the KHSAA is testing the waters....just as I'm certain that football was tried first in an effort to break down the anticipated resistance to the RPI in tradition-heavy basketball.

Count me in among the "resistance"... :taz:
