Using this to seed teams wouldn’t be fair. Especially to teams trying to find more competition outside of the state. Your teams heads to Florida and brings home a championship after beating 4 teams that have great records. However, in the eyes of the state you played 4 teams with a .500 record.

I said the same thing about football. It did seem to work itself out though. Basketball is a different animal but I don't believe the khsaa plans on using it anytime soon for basketball. Seems like a trial period to me.

Basketball is a very different animal.

And - although football did seem to work itself out, any stats geek knows that a sample size of one is not valid at all for statistical purposes.

Not a fan...

I'm 100% certain you are correct. But it will be - in my opinion - the death of what makes Kentucky HS basketball unique and special in the entire country. In Kentucky, we treasure and relish the fact that it only takes 5 players to take an itty-bitty school to the pinnacle of the state in basketball. Sure, it doesn't happen all that often - but in KY, every HS basketball fan knows who Carr Creek, Inez, Cuba, Brewers, Edmonson County and Paintsville are and they can tell you something about those special years when a little school (like those, and others) rose up and slayed the "giants".

As I said, I'm 100% certain that the KHSAA is testing the waters....just as I'm certain that football was tried first in an effort to break down the anticipated resistance to the RPI in tradition-heavy basketball.

Count me in among the "resistance"... :taz:

This is more nostalgia than what makes for a better tourney. Is way past time to class basketball (and all the team sports) and seed the state tourneys. It’s not rocket science.

I'm not for seeding the sweet 16. I like the random draw and not punishing teams with the hardest possible path before they even play a game by seeding it.

Of course that happens with a random draw, and with a random draw it can happen to a team that doesn't deserve to be punished.

I'd argue no regional champ should be punished by being a 16 seed. I prefer the randomness, at least it is the same for everyone. With seeding a handful of regions will always have to lowest RPI based on nothing more than geography. All schools don't have the funds to run all over the state playing top rated teams.

I understand your point. And I see how randomness helps the "little" guy. I just fall in the camp of rewarding the better teams. But your point is also one of the reasons I feel like classification needs to happen as well.
