I don't know what to say if you think this is "crying". If UM hadn't gotten in because they didn't deserve it, I'd be fine with it. But the fact of the matter is that most felt they did up until the final vote. Not playing for 2 weeks, having UF play more recently, and voting against a rematch all severely hurt UM's chances. And if it were in the rules, I'd be fine with it. Just let us know what exactly it is we're supposed to do so we can follow the rules. And please don't make whining in front of millions of people a requirement to make the NC, we all have too much class for that.

We're not talking about Boise State here, we're talking about 3 powerhouse schools. Tell me how previous rankings meant anything to OSU, UF, and UM. The only coaches who had a conflict were OSU, UF, and UM. To a reasonable person, Tressell not voting should be more than understandable.

It would appear that Tressell's fellow Big Ten coaches don't feel it's OK. As reported by ESPN.com, Joe Paterno is on the record as saying, "you vote for the teams in your conference. We do it, because they(other conferences) do it. To walk out and not vote at all is a vote for the other conference." Somehow, I don't get the impression that Joe Pa was too happy about this.

Urban Meyer cried when he blatantly campaigned for votes. UM, Lloyd Carr, and myself, we didn't cry. If you really don't see any problem with what happened at all, then I don't know what to tell you. We're obviously done here. The fact that numerous other sources have come out and said they do see a problem speaks volumes for my case. I agree, if we'd taken care of business this wouldn't matter. But if the shoe was on the other foot, could you wear it?

Sums it up. If OSU had lost to UM, I would have been fine with them in the Rose Bowl.

Exactly, both teams lost a game and one was left out. Who cares why people changed their votes? It's possible that since they knew how important this final vote was they looked at the whole body of work and they thought Florida deserved it. It's clear that both sides feel they deserved a shot. It's clear that someone was going to feel slighted by the system, and it's very clear that UM fans feel they were cheated. Now can we all move on?

I dont think it's as simple as that...It comes down to the fact that based on what happened last night, Florida jumped UM only because of the Arkansas game, because they werent higher than UM until that point...And if thats the case, it's bogus.

I HONESTLY can not understand why it's bogus for a team's ranking to improve after beating a top ranked team on a neutral field. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

I would guess that after USC lost, the voters looked at Michigan and Florida and said who deserved the shot at Ohio State. The team that had a shot and lost or the SEC champs Florida. And the voters went Florida.

 

I would hazard a guess that Michigan was put in at 3 ahead of Florida because they did not give it much thought thinking that USC would NOT lose to UCLA. Then a collective, "O crap" went across the nation and now they had to give serious consideration to Florida and Michigan.

 

USC doesn't lose, I agree that there is a good chance that Michigan finishes in front of Floriday because whether they are 3 or 4 isn't relevant but whether they are 2 or 3 is.

So you're advocating voting the teams in your conference higher than you really think they are simply because they're in your conference?

When Auburn got left out of the equation, they started the year off ranked 17th. OU and USC were in the top three all year. Auburn played an incredibly tough schedule(the SEC, along with a couple of cupckakes), and one of the biggest reasons given as to why they didn't make it was they started in the polls too low. The next year the pre-season polls weren't supposed to be official, and the official polls were supposed to come out in like week 6 as the first official poll. Of course, the voters just based votes on the preseason polls, and there were so many teams that matched thiere position as if the previous weeks had been counted.

 

Maybe there should be a daily poll by the voters. How about only one poll at the end of the season?
