October 3, 20197 yr Apparently the floating Yacht Club was struck by a barge on the Ohio River this morning. Happened at 6:05am, when a gravel barge traveling upsteam on the river hit the bar and dragged a portion of it 1/2 mile up river in addition to setting adrift 6 boats which had been tied to the Yacht Club. 3 of the boats sank and have been located by radar, and 3 others have not yet been located. Officials have determined the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club to be a complete loss.
October 3, 20197 yr Author So the barge was loaded down with gravel and was headed upstream to the Hilltop Resources plant next to Paul Brown Stadium. That impact must have taken place at like 0.075 knots. There HAS to have been some major negligence at play here.
October 3, 20197 yr I saw something on the news that the barge was avoiding a place on the river that is the wreckage of another sunk barge. Anyone?

There HAS to have been some major negligence at play here. Local news is reporting that it was on it's way to Wheeling, WV. There are people talking that 6am is pretty much a standard shift change on those barges, and this accident occurred at 6:05. Coincidence?
October 3, 20197 yr I saw something on the news that the barge was avoiding a place on the river that is the wreckage of another sunk barge. Anyone? I saw that on the news. The channel coming out of the turn there is smaller as a barge that sunk years ago shifted last year making the channel more narrow.
October 3, 20197 yr Always interesting crowds at the LBYC in the summer. Known in my circle of friends as Wal-Mart on the river. I always enjoyed going there.
October 3, 20197 yr All Cash baby! No credit card sales at the LBYC.....Lots of PVC pipe buried somewhere.:lol2:
October 7, 20197 yr I had a really good fish sandwich there and the owners are great people. I was a little afraid to sit in the plastic chair (I wasn't sure what its weight limit was). They hired lots of Boone County High School teens over the summers. I feel really bad for the owners.

I was there a week or two after they had opened back up for the season, and I guess the chair had been out in the elements all off season and was well-primed to give up the ghost. I was just laughing about it myself, but I was more than happy to accept the free bucket of beer they offered me as an apology.
October 7, 20197 yr I always enjoyed going down once or twice a season. Great place to people watch. Always liked looking for the older lady who collected beer can pull tabs. She always seemed to be there. Great cash business. I guess reopening the LBYC depends on how much of a settlement the owners get. They may be able to retire and good for them. Still, I hope they reopen or someone puts something similar there.
