I think most years SK wins this game but I don't think they've got the explosive players this year to help them. Usually they have a handful of guys that can tip the scales in their favor against teams not named X, T or Male with a couple others in the mix as well.

 

Now with that said, this team looked really young to me so they should get some reps and develop but not enough so for anyone to consider them a deep playoff team atleast based off what I watched tonight.

 

I hate to post nothing but negatives so to finish I will say SK has some decent receivers and if the QB position doesn't change then the freshmen will be a player in due time. You can see that the skills and ability are there but it's quite a leap going from middle school ball to Varsity football.

I can agree with that. Anderson was 11-4 last season so they aren't slouches but honestly they didn't impress either. A couple of good plays but SK had blown coverages a few times for scores and I will say Anderson receiver didnhabe one NASTY touchdown catch that's highlight footage. Anderson receiver wrapped himself around SK guy in the endzone and basically got a touchdown off by hauling it in off the SK defenders facemask, a play to be proud of for the Anderson receiver no doubt.

Absolutely agree about the QB. That young man took his middle school to two championship games in two years (both losses). Maybe not single handedly but he was their absolute best player. Marksberry starts em young and he has a good one in Chase Crone.

Jeff favors giving reps to younger QBs because of the long-term benefit. I don’t see SK having a great year, but dividends will be paid in the future.

Enough about me, this game is good experience for Simon Kenton and I am glad to see they have upgraded their schedule.

SK, Ryle, Beechwood, Scott, Cov Cath, Holy Cross, Campbell County and Newport Central Catholic all play teams from Ohio this year. Highlands, for years played Ohio teams, and probably will play there again in the future. How many more NKY teams need to play across the river in order to be enough?

I would love to see all the 5A and 6A schools do it but unfortunately it isn’t really a draw for Ohio schools to take that risk with how their playoffs are determined.

Anderson came back and beat Kings at home a few weeks later in the playoffs. The year before when Covcath won state, Kings hung with them for 3 quarters. That Kings team went 5-5 and missed the playoffs.

 

Highlands and Anderson in a 10 game series, I’d go Anderson 6-4, Highlands appears to be somewhat back. Covcath would give Anderson all they want. But that’s no different than Anderson playing Lasalle.

As JA said, Anderson also beat Kings last year. Kings had two losses last year - Cov Cath and Anderson. If Anderson was in KY in 2018, they would have been ranked #7 in the entire state, just behind #5 Scott County and #6 Franklin-Simpson and higher ranked than St. X. Trinity, Johnson Central, et al.

 

Using one game common opponent comparisons isn't very accurate, as JA pointed out. Last year CCH beat Highlands 36-0 in one game and 21-14 in the other.

 

In 2018, there were 33 schools in Ohio ranked higher than 6A champ Male. Schools considered just good in Ohio would be winning state championships in KY
