Highlands 42 Scott 13

Featured Replies

Sounds like once the Bird's settled down the defense played as advertised and the offense ran up some good numbers. Looking forward to next week in Corbin against Knoxville Catholic.

Don't let the score fool you, game was closer than indicated. Both teams had tons of turnovers and highlands took advantage of those. For the most part Scott was way better then most thought. Highlands settled down and took over 2nd half.

Talent equal? Or Highlands with superior coaching?

Heard Perrin was injured in the 1st couple of plays, and never returned?

The Eagles have plenty of talent, and the coaching is more than fine. This was a game for the first 20 minutes. Then Highlands pace and depth took over. Scott is very young, starting 4 or 5 sophomores on both sides of the ball in key positions. Plus Perrin only played about 10 snaps before getting hurt. Not saying they would have won had he stayed healthy, but it obviously would have made a big difference. Scott is going to be a dangerous team.

He did not return after the first offensive series.

What???? The score pretty much reflected what the game was. Highlands started slow with a backup QB and honestly, I think the D was a little tight to start the game. After the first quarter, they went to the normal starting QB and you see what happened. Yes, I was actually surprised Scott put up 2 scores early, but the Birds adjusted, settled down, and got on track. The Birds went back to their backup QB in the 4th or they would have put up at least one more score. Connor Zell had a monster game on D! He is going to cause fits for people all year with his length, strength, and speed off the line! I have never in my life seen so many guys go down winded and with cramps. Scott really needs to focus on conditioning. It was literally every other play someone going down. No 30 point win is "closer than it looks". Come on.

Thanks for all that, why did the Birds start with a backup QB?

Hollingsworth is coming back from an injury. I assume coaches wanted to try to give him another week rest. The backups played in all of the scrimmages, so it was great seeing Hollingsworth knock the rust off quickly and get rolling. He's going to be a serious weapon with his legs/arm. They need to work on deep ball timing, but that will come with practice reps. With Ahfeld, Houzz (DNP), Weyer, Delgrange, Deschler, and Garvey, the WR crop is LOADED with talent. Patience guys, these boys are going to be just fine.

I still would have liked to have seen how things would have turned out if Perrin hadn’t gone down early. Not saying Scott wins the game, but they are a completely different team without him. Scott has two very good receivers and will be very hard to defend with Perrin. When he went down, Scott’s ability to control the ball went with it, and their inexperience and lack of depth really became apparent. Scott also caught a couple of bad breaks on tipped balls that resulted in turnovers. Highlands could have very easily been down two scores going into halftime. They did a good job surviving their early struggle on O and D, and settled in very nicely. Highlands pace is going to be a big problem for teams that are lacking depth. Scott will be explosive this year, and as they gain experience, are going to be a tough team to play this year as the season progresses.

Who was the backup QB that played when Hollingsworth was not playing?
