Texas A&M hires Buzz Williams

Good hire. Hokie fans that I know, are pretty bummed out to lose him.

They should be. That's a really tough job given the state of the ACC and whoever replaces him has his work cut out for him.

The SEC sure does have some good coaches. Seems like a great move for A&M. Always liked Buzz.

I don’t know if he knew what he was talking about but a buddy told me that Texas A&M was the wealthiest university in the nation. So, if true money shouldn’t be a problem for Buzz to build his program.

Here is the list going by endowment dollars:

• The 2 richest colleges in America 218 | Statistic

Harvard 1, Texas 2 and Yale 3.

Texas A&M is #8.

If you look at the whole list, the top 20 is basically all the schools considered the best academically, plus the two Texas oil rich schools.

And that list makes me wonder why any student at those schools should pay to go there. Harvard's endowment is $38.3 billion. What is the purpose of the money? Shouldn't that be used to cover the cost of school for those who are able to get in? Topic for another thread.

Does this make A&M a contender for the SEC now?

Yes.

You are right. Academic endowments are a separate subject since they have absolutely nothing to with athletics.

If you make less than $100K as a family and get accepted to schools like Harvard, Yale, Vandy you basically do go for free. Their endowments offset the cost for "lower" income familes/students. Of course the tough part is getting accepted, probably have to bribe someone. :lol2:

Alot of it goes towards research. Also, Ph.D students often go for free and receive a stipend. Rest towards student need.
