Vacations in 2019

Featured Replies

It's always interesting to see what people like to do for vacation and how different everyone is in that regard. I can't vacation somewhere "off the grid" or out in the middle of nowhere. That's boring to me. Others love that kind of exclusion.

Don't know if you're a craft beer drinker or not.

If you are, don't miss a chance to go to Alesmith's tasting room. Arguably the best in the US.

Not a beer drinker at all, but thanks for the suggestion.

The beach lovers are the ones I don't get, especially those who go to the same beach year after year. There are so many other great places to go and see, why spend all that vacation time at the same beach?

I love Florida, and being close to the ocean. But the actual beach isn't for me. I agree with you completely. I don't understand going to the same beach over and over.

Back at work today...dream vacation is over. 24 days - 12 states - 6300 miles. Tired, but worth every bit of it. Wish I could go back tomorrow.

That's a lot of driving but if any trip is worth that much driving it is the Yellowstone/Tetons/Black Hills trip.

Did you go through Custer Park while in the Black Hills?

We did. Took the Wildlife Loop Road around the southern end of it and saw the buffalo herds and the begging burros. But, my favorite part of the park would've been the drives on the Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road towards the north. Actually, now that I write that, I'm not sure either of those roadways are completely in Custer State Park or not. We did all three of them in one day, so it's hard to remember where the park line(s) actually ended. lol

As to the driving, I knew there'd be a lot. This was not a "sit and relax" type of vacation...this was a sightseeing vacation, and so we had to drive to see the sights.

10 days in Ireland and Scotland including golf at St. Andrews, in October. Will probably make our (pretty much) annual trip to visit my parents in St. Augustine; late spring or early summer.

St Augustine next week.

Wife and are heading back to the Dominican Republic on Friday. We were there 6 weeks ago and just decided to head back.

When can I go back to Michigan? It's going to 97 degrees here on Saturday. Can't do anything with that except sit around and sweat.

Already looking at maybe going back in September or October.

Took a spontaneous 4 day trip to Ocean City, Maryland last week. First time there, really cool place.

My family is heading to Texas and the end of next week. Were going to spend a few days in the Dallas area, a few days in San Antonio and end with some time relaxing on South Padre Island. I'm going to eat so much Mexican food.

Went there often as a youngster. My mom’s family was from the Eastern Shore.

Where do you go in Michigan? Some people on here may not know this, but Michigan has some nice beaches on Lake Michigan. However, I heard they are having big problems with high water levels and flooding up there this summer.

North of Traverse City on the Eastern shore of Grand Traverse Bay.

I've heard there are issues with some beaches, but the little one at the base of the steep set of stairs we had in June was still hanging on. And those heavy spring rains also made for the worst mosquito season I can ever remember up there. That's what sticks out more than the high water.
