November 16, 200619 yr Will make his stay in Lexington a little longer. :thumb: Eat it up RB bashers. http://www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=39&url_article_id=18887&change_well_id=2
November 16, 200619 yr I'm not a big fan of Brooks' coaching style, but he has done a good job this season with the team. So, I believe Barnhart knows what is best for the football program. Or he thinks that he does.
November 16, 200619 yr Although I've been critical of Brooks, I've deliberately tried to minimize my comments about him....I will give him his due and congratulations, for the season to date. He and his staff, brought in a solid recruiting class this year. Hopefully, UK can continue to sign the type of players, that can elevate the program in the SEC. I'm not convinced he's the man for the turnaround. As for an extension....keeping the team focused on task at hand, is the important thing and not distracting them, from will he be back or won't he be back, is the main issue. Cats are playing well and Brooks, staff and players deserve the credit. Continued success this season and hopefully, to a BOWL....:thumb:
November 16, 200619 yr It is no secret that I have been critical of Brooks since he "signed on the dotted line" and still am in a lot of ways but like STRIKE I will give him his due for the season he has had so far this year and the way his players play for him. Archer is a whole other story, he should have been gone before he was hired:D . Get rid of Archer yesterday!
November 17, 200619 yr Rich has done a remarkable job this season, compared to his past seasons here...
November 17, 200619 yr I have never been critical of Rich Brookes! I get upset with Archer! I like Rich Brooks because he never backs off,and there is a toughness in that!
November 17, 200619 yr I have been critical of Brooks as well as barnhart and the rest of the athletic dept. I will admit brooks has done what he needed to do to keep his job. He is playing a ton of young kids. I do believe he should stay and be judge on his first senior class as for improvement of the program. But since he has been on probation they should let this Sophmore class graduate before we detemine if he is a proven coach. I dont believe it should be measured in wins and loses. Only thing Concerns me is this program has been plagued by injuries. Next year schedule gets tougher.
November 17, 200619 yr I've said all along that Brooks deserved a fair chance before he was judged. The first three probation strapped years would affect any coaches ability. Now that UK is out of probation and able to keep a full complement of players on the roster is when he should be judged. I think the contract extension was needed to help in his recruiting efforts. I think next couple of years is the fair time for all to judge whether or not Brooks is the right man for the job.
November 17, 200619 yr Brooks is getting the talent needed to turn the program around. The really young cats are SEC contenders and probably even National contenders with continuos hard work. Archer is more of a camera guy, not a football coach. At one point in time, he was a good coach. The media in lexington does that to people. Make you wanna get your picture taken all the time.
November 17, 200619 yr If I was Mitch I'd wait to see how he does next year with all that talent coming back before I gave him a good extension. I'd like to see if they can be consistent an not just a one time thing.
November 17, 200619 yr I have been against coach brooks from the start. Ill give credit to all the uk staff and I am glad for the kids who have worked to get us this winning season.my hats off to coach brooks and staff. I guess crow tatse best served in an outback bowl.good luck coach brooks and cats.sorry for the doubt and critism for the past four years.Ill take my crow well done.
November 17, 200619 yr Brooks came into a very bad situation. Took a lot of heat,... much of it undeserved, .. but he took it anyway. He and his staff went out and put together back to back solid recruiting classes. He now has a very young roster with 73 frosh/sophs and they have exceeded expectations this season. I hoped they would have a shot at 7 wins next season, but through much hard work, the kids and staff have a shot at it this season. Congrats. If Brooks wants to stay, he should be given the opportunity. Why make someone do all the dirty work, lay the foundation, and take the heat only to turn over a young talented team to someone else. He should get to enjoy the fruits of his labors. :thumb:
