Notre Dame continues to get the benefit of the doubt because of what they did decades ago all while not being in a conference. They are not one of the elite programs in college football anymore and they should stop getting that treatment.

All I said was that the Ohio State passing attack vs the Clemson secondary is a huge mismatch. The Clemson D line could very wreak havoc on the Ohio State D line. I’m talking specifically about their secondary. I think you’ll see it in the National Championship game. If Bama can give Tua time he will throw for a billion yards against the Clemson secondary.

Saying ND wouldn’t have lost to Purdue doesn’t prove in any way that ND is better unless you for some reason believe Purdue is a better team than Ohio State instead of Ohio State having a horrible game.

 

What proved they were better is they went undefeated and beat teams much better than Purdue.

They weren't in the same league with Clemson last night, obviously. I have zero problem admitting that.

You do realize Ohio State put 63 and 45 on two teams they had in common with Notre Dame, right?

 

I'm not an OSU guy or fan, but Notre Dame going undefeated doesn't prove they are better than any of the other teams being discussed that should have been in over them. If going undefeated against a different schedule proves you are better than a certain team head to head, I guess UCF needs to be included in this conversation as well.

Point was they took care of every team on their schedule. If OSU would have taken care of business against Purdue we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. As GrantNKY said, ND had the toughest schedule of any of the 4 playoff teams. I get it, you don't like the Irish, you don't keep a team like that out of the playoffs just because guys like you don't like Notre Dame. That's not how it works nor should it. UCF didn't have near the schedule ND had.

Georgia should have been in instead of ND, but I get it why ND was in. But absolutely Georgia would be in before OSU. Not even close.

Right now...playing Alabama and Clemson, with the resources they have, and with 4 weeks to prepare, is a losing proposition for anyone. The only way you've got a chance against either of them is with a one week turnaround.

 

People saying UGA deserved to be in...How 'bout this, don't get blown out by a borderline top 10 team in LSU. Yeah, they played Alabama tight...while Tua was hobbled, before he underwent the magical surgery...but, if they would have just taken care of business against LSU, they would have been in.

 

Lastly, under the current academic/recruiting environment, Notre Dame will NEVER consistently compete with these Bama & Clemson programs (or for that matter, the other elites), especially when they have a month to prepare. They have some nice players, but the talent gap is WIDE. That said, if they go undefeated, against their schedule...they deserve to be in.

Ohio State beat much better teams then Purdue as well. Hell Ohio State and Notre Dame had two common opponents. The Ohio State loss to Purdue meant that the bad Ohio State team could show up unexpectedly and that Notre Dame was more consistent throughout the year. That doesn’t prove Notre Dame is better.
