Covington Catholic 36 Highlands 0

They ran out of hot chocolate on the visitors side of the field way too early.

That’s pretty typical of our guys haha.

Looks like my wish was answered Covington Catholic with a running clock.?

The first half wasn’t as close as you said. The missed FG came after a long drive. The INT also in the red zone at the end of the first half. Easily could have been 17-0 at half.

Total yards for the game:

CovCath 405

Highlands 79

Impressive. Nice game plan from Terry Brown and the boys.

Ouch

That CovCath D has been amazing the past few years!!!! A question for the CovCath faithful, what is that good awful song they play after a TD?? It sounds like a Japanese cartoon or something. It is awful lol!!

I watched the whole game. I will preface by saying I really don't root for either team and not a fan at all of either. I generally root for whoever plays either. I am about as objective as you can get. It was total domination, especially the 2nd half. Andy Reid could have been OC and the Birds would have struggled. The Colonels have better players and more specifically were better up front on both sides of the ball. Simple as that.

I didnt think you could do worse than the horrible song they play after Highlands TDs. I guess Cov Cath beat us at horrible songs too.

Haha. Two great schools compete at everything!

Colonels lineman Lucas Jones didn't play in the first game. Back for this one and really helped make Sisson a non factor most of the game.

Forgot to give a call out to the down field blocking by the CovCath receivers. Coldiron and Coburn each had nice down field blocks to extend runs for McGinness.

It is their fight song, but it definitely needs to be played to a different tune.

Did CCH go for two points to get the running clock? At what point in the game did that happen?

Very early in the 4th. Made the game and cold a lot easier to handle.

Yes-I believe they made it 34-0 on the 1st play of the 4th Quarter. They went for two after that. The 4th Quarter then took about 15 minutes, and allowed CCH to get the backups (including some of their Frosh) in.

VoR, it is worth going back and watching the 2pt conversion and the play before it. It was one of those "textbook coaching things" where CCH took their time, got Highlands to jump off sides giving the Colonels half the distance to the goal free, and then CCH powered it in.

In my opinion, the 2pt conversion was the cherry on top of an amazing 2nd half performance by CovCath.

And check out Michael Mayer's block on the 2 pt conversion. To your point about 2nd half adjustments, they utilized Mayer as lead blocker more in 2nd half and it paid off. Kudo's to the HHS linebackers who took on Mayer for some big collisions at the line, that was a tough assignment.
