Ashland vs Johnson Central Predictions & Discussion

Featured Replies

Here are my keys for a Johnson Central win:

1. Hit Thomas every play. Micheal Tackett layed a shot on him early in the first game, and he didnt want the ball anymore.

2. JC has to limit their stupid penalities, (delay of game, false starts, offsides)

3. JC has to protect the ball, and eat as much clock up as they can.

4. JC has won all 11 games by doing one thing... running the football. I dont see Matney getting away from his bread n butter.

This is the BIGGEST game in the history of Johnson Central football. No team in the schools history has ever went 12-0. No team has ever played in the 3rd round of the play-offs. Johnson Central is ready, they know what is at stake.

Ashland's key:

Force many Fumbles...I think they need a +3 or +4 turnover ratio to pull the upset.

Good luck to the Golden Eagles. Have all the Tomcats in the gym tomorrow morning bouncing basketballs. :thumb:

Will they score like they did against JC back in October?

I'm guessing they get shut out.

If you mean will they score as the result of a pass or a run, I would also have to "guess" that we will score via the passing game tonight. If, however, you mean will we score the same amount of points as back in October, that would be fine with me provided JC had one less point at the end of the game.

One aspect which has not been written about much is Ashland's ability to hit a field goal or two. That is a clear advantage we have over the Eagles but I sure dont want to trade field goals for touch downs.

I look for this to be a game defined by defensive intensity.

Hopefully the defense really comes to play tonight.

Hope to see you at your Wed. night party next week.

One more Wednesday night project would be perfect! If that happens, it will be our defense which makes it so.

See you at Paintsville in a few hours!:walk:

Jericho is referring to the great Ashland Tomcat teams of the 70's, coached by Herb Conley. The Tomcats would line up in the wish bone, and just play power football at it's finest. Bill Tom Ross was an assistant coach for some of those great Ashland teams. I'm sure he would be more than happy to tell you about how great some of those teams were. Those Ashland teams also played some great defense. Their defensive unit was known as "JAWS" defense.

Herb Conley coached teams from 1971-1976 produced 13 1st team all-state football players.

The first all-state football player was 1920 the Tomcats have been around for a long time.:thumb:

Good Luck Tomcats.

Uh... excuse me, but Johnson Central has a very good kicker in James Barrett. No way Ashland has the clear advantage in kicking game.

Consider yourself excused.

No disrespect intended to Mr. Barrett...but lets face it, JC hasnt needed a kicking game other than PAT's. How many field goals have the Eagles produced this season?

Did JC go for two against Boyd with a multiple td lead? If so why?

That was with the JV offense in the game and moving the ball at will. Coach Matney sent on the feild goal team in twice in the 4th on 1st down plays, not wanting to run the score up.

...BTW...Matney hates everything about Ashland. ....

I hope that isn't a direct quote. I would like to think that a head coach at the varsity level has a little more class than to say that he HATES everything about an opponent.

I can guarantee this is not a direct quote from Coach Matney. He has much more class and respect for the Ashland program than to say something like this.

All Ashland fans that are coming to the game tonight... be careful coming down, and be careful going back. Lets all hope for a injury free game and may the best team win.

I didn't think it was, Eagle 01. :thumb:
