Do your freshmen teams move up after their season is over?

Featured Replies

Now that Highlands freshmen season is over, this is a great time for these young birds to get some extra practice time with the varsity. I was wondering how many teams move the freshmen up after their season was over?

The majority of teams across the state don't have enough pl;ayers to field a freshman only team so teh Freshman practice all year with the varsity.

It must be nice to have so many kids.

St. X freshmen do not move up.

With St. X

usually making it deep into the playoffs, wouldn't it be nice to have an 4 or 5 weeks of extra practice to get these kids ready for next year?

There may be some benefit to the freshmen. But what about the chaos that adding an additional 100 players to practice would cause? Could you imagine a practice with 200 or more players?

LexChristian's Freshmen are VARSITY STARTERS - QB & RB are both frosh!

This is the "norm" for Class A football - we are lucky to have a JV team...

Everyone at Johnson Central dresses varisty for every game although the number of freshman that see much playing time is very small.

Well, I assume you'd have the freshmen coaches "move up" also to handle the additional 100 freshmen, so the chaos is somewhat mitigated. Heck, you can have the freshmen practice against/with the sophomores, thus easing the freshmen into what football will be like next year as sophomores. I agree with you that if it can't be done in a way that does not cause distractions, it shouldn't be done.

Like EE says. Most of us single A schools play our freshman on varsity. My son started as a linebacker his freshman year.
