Last year my son was a freshman he started freshman jv and varsity freshman and jv he played the whole game both ways

what about having the 8th graders that want to come up and practice with the 9th graders. that way the 9th grade gets meaningful practice without standing around and watching the varsity the rest of the season?? Helps set the tone for the incoming 8th graders too???

Trying to do this would make a practice into more of a circus than a practice.

From what I saw at practice last night, there were some freshman getting some meaningful practice.

I wouldnt be surprised to see some Frosh get in the game this week during situational downs or maybe special teams. Especially if they are up by 3 or more TD's... would be good for them to feel the rush of playing on Friday night.

At Highlands the 8th graders come from 5 different 7th &8th grade teams plus others like NFF & Red Devils from the NKFL. They are not familiar with the offense/defense that HHS runs.

 

The HHS Frosh run an abbreviated version of both. Plus due to Basketball and other issues only about half the team (or so) choose to move up.

I don't think you will see this happen. A few freshman got in on kick-offs and punts at Sat. JV game, but I really don't see this happening in a Varsity game. Highlands is just too deep with talent on the sophmore, junior and even the senior level to put freshman on the field to give them experience. Their day will come. For now they are practicing with the Varsity and getting the feel for what it is like to go up against the big boys in that venue.

The By Law states that students below the 9th grade may not participate in varsity football "contests", but does not define contests. However, the Interpretations, while not law, indicate that they may not participate in varsity football games or practices. A high school would be in peril if they allowed 8th graders to practice with the varsity.

 

And Henry was correct. Some of the Birds frosh got some very meaningful minutes in yesterday's varsity practice. Good job young men. Make those varsity players work.

You are correct. Below 9th grade cannot be on the field with upper classmen.

Do not be surprised to see the frosh get some special team time if we are up LARGE...Dale did it last year. And even ran some Offense with the Frosh (~1-2 minutes). And seeing how much in love Dale is with this class, he may play them the entire 4th quarter (LOL!)

I hope all of the South Oldham players/ coaches are putting all this garbage about being up big and playing the freshman team up on the bullentin board and South Oldham Dragons come in with a chip on their shoulder and pull out a victory.

Highlands is in noway looking past SO. They have played them once and know from past experience this game is not going to be a cake walk. (pardon the pun). Some of the freshman are only practicing with the varsity on scout teams. Practice is probably going to be the only varsity experience they will see this year.
