Will Beechwood get a fair shake in Redhound Country?

Featured Replies

Someone recently mentioned on BGP that out of town teams don't always get a fair shake when they come to Corbin. Is that idle talk with no basis in fact or for whatever reason(s) does Corbin have some type of extra home field advantage?

While I am at it, when is the last time an out of town team beat Corbin at Corbin?

Belfry beat them in the state-semis in 2016.

Corbin was last beat at home on Nov 25th 2016

They also lost 3 times at home in 2015.

Knowing pretty much all the officials in the 13th region association, I can assure you this is garbage. I'm not a Corbin fan, but reality is they are really good especially lately, and have a tremendous home field atmosphere. Also, since 2016 the only teams to play at Corbin that should have/could have beat them were Alcoa, Belfry and Louisville Central. Alcoa went right down to the end, they beat Central by a td, then won at Central the next year in the state semis, and were blown out by Belfry. So in the 3 tough games they are 2-1 at home and of the two wins they beat one of the teams on the road the next year by almost identical scores.

You'll get as fair a shake at Corbin as you will at any top-notch program.

Corbin losses at home in 2015:

Danville 20 - Corbin 0

Knox Central 36 - Corbin 0

Southwestern 14 - Corbin 10

Played the same teams on the road the following year (2016)

Corbin 28 - Danville 7

Corbin 39 - Knox Central 0

Corbin 20 -Southwestern 8

Wait a minute, maybe we are actually getting a better whistle on the road.:idunno:

Yes, they'll get a fair shake.

Interesting question.

I thought I remember the penalties last year being very one sided in Beechwood's favor. Not saying they weren't justified or that the Tigers didn't play a more disciplined game but if we are asking questions about "fairness" is that appropriate one year and not the other? :idunno:

It is probably human nature to identify more with 'peeps' from your own neck of the woods.

The correct response

I anticipate the shaking will be similar to what Corbin got at Beechwood.

Homefield advantage does exist for top tier programs. It's not that anything malicious is going on, but when you are in front of a loud, raucous crowd in a close game and a 50/50 call is to be made, you best believe that in these instances more often than not an official will side with the home crowd.

I think this is the general rule of thumb across the state.

Well.... with the exception of Ashland.... you are going to get the shaft at Ashland, no fair shake to it LOL

100% no way they get a “fair shake”.

Belfry beat them in the state-semis in 2016.

Out of town officials crew just for full disclosure.

I have gone to a lot of games in my time and (NEVER BEEN TO CORBIN)a lot of times I have no dog in the fight. I will go on to say there are certain schools, who always seem to get the benefit of the doubt, when it comes to close calls.

There are times I have said to fans if the road team wins this game, they really did earn it because I have seen some calls, that have made me scratch my head.

Two worse places I have seen things happen at in Ohio were at Logan and Liberty Union.
