First, congrats to Danville on a hard fought game. They came out ready and smacked Boyle around from the start.

 

Boyle has got to start games better than they have so far. That's makes 3 straight games that the defense has given up a lot yardage in the first half and shut them down in the second half. Through 3 games Boyle has given up 42 points in the first half and only 3 points in the second half.

 

The running game is a concern. I'm sure it will get better when Tanner comes back but right now it's non existent.

 

I'm sure Chuck will correct these problems by district time.

This game was much closer than the final score would indicate. I knew it would be a battle. Both defenses were great. Game was won/lost with special teams. I’m on the road so I’ll post more later.

"Thorton is a little banged up but McGuire kid had a good game against Corbin. I think he hits us for a couple of decent runs but passing game doesn't do enough. Dorian can't make enough tackles but he will play well. In the end Lanter has a big game (I hope) and Boyle pulls away."

Ok so I was 4 points off.

 

I think everyone knew the Oline would need to grow throughout the season and they will. I think both of these teams will be better by the end of the season since both are replacing some big holes. I also think they will need to be to get past the third round of the playoffs. I don't think Boyle is a lock to make it back to Lex. Lot of great players on the field but several areas that have to get better to repeat.

Week one Reese Smith was the Rebels catalyst. Last week it was Cameron Guinn, Wilson Kelly and the rest of the defensive line. Last night it was Ned Stephens. He was asked to play both sides of the line and did a great job. The blocked punt recovery for a touchdown was a "all hustle" play.

The blocked punt was a bad snap that the punter couldn’t handle cleanly.

The Rebels have also been coming out sluggish in the first half in the first 3 games. To be a title contender against the teams like Central, Corbin, Belfry and Catholic they need to play 4 quarters.

 

Good news is it's still early in the season. Boyle County played against a solid Danville team who is continuing to improve. Those boys played their hearts out.

I credit Danville for the sluggish Boyle County start. They came out swinging.

Both teams played hard. Was a good high school game. Both teams will learn from this game and will need to, to make title runs again this year.
