The last part relates to the game how?

Presumably happened during or immediately after it.

sounds like sour grapes from jpa2825. this was a nice clean and well reffed game. just curious how old were the bleachers? also why was the final score never put up on the scoreboard?

Not sure how you got "sour grapes" from my post, but I commend your creativity.

drove 31/2 hrs from western ky. for my yearly nky hs. football fix. wow what a game athough my alma mater was on the loosing end. nothing compares to nky football and hope those who get to enjoy it on a weekly basis appreciate it. as for the game, haven't seen a cch D with that much speed in years. #26 and #30 were all over the field. return team must be really scary for dale to give your offense the ball on the 35 to 40 every drive???? both offensive lines were very impressive. sure wish dale would throw a 10 -15 yd pass and use that big tight end on occassion to spread the defensive a bit. guess when you can gain 5-7 yds at will running 4-5 different plays why change. dissapointed hhs defensive gave up 29 pts. hope coaches have a plan in the rematch for putting some pressure on the qb for round two or i fear the same result. thought both teams played , won and lost with class. love seeing opposing players help each other up after big hits. quess the jv squads haven't been paying attention to the upper classmen in this reguard. cch student body is the best and that's coming from a die hard birds fan. expect round two to be equally competitive just have to decide wether to give up my uk- vandy tickets to see the rematch. doesn't sound like much of a dillema does it? by the way, i've seen the purples play about half of their games and feel like either nky representative will be state champs provided no surprises from the mountains await. purples have 4 0r 5 true d-1 caliber players but still like the birds and colonels 22 best on the field overall. again what a game and well worth the 7 hr. round trip!!!

Great post. I have an old frat brother that came from Columbus to see the game. He went to the DeSales game too. He has seen two awesome rain games this year.

You might want to keep your Vandy tickets, since the cats only win once a month. You can catch the birds at Lex. Cath. in 3 weeks. :D

That's right Colonel fans, the Birds haven't lost their mojo. :fight:

I understand that. I just thought "keep it to the game" would mean no posts related to off field issues.

Sutton played both ways. Flynn played a fair amount both ways. B Brown played some offense but not the entire game. Kater played some D. Anyone else?

Just got done watching the replay of the game. With 17 seconds left, Bovard caught a ball with one knee on the ground and then was pulled out of bounds. The play resulted in a first down but the clock should have started after the chains were moved. Didn't catch this during the game. Overall I thought that the officials did a good job. The results might have been the same if the proper call was made. I had the advantage of watching a replay to catch this were the officials are calling it live. Hoping for a rematch.

game in two weeks should be a clash of the titans

i got the sour grapes from you finding excuses for HHS by blaming the refs and anybody instead of just taking the loss.

P.S. I don't think I am that creative do you? but, hey i take any compliment.:ylsuper:

Wasn't able to make the game, but it sounded amazing. Can't wait to see the tape.

From what I heard, Highlands had some poor decisions as far as clock managment on the last drive and kicking the ball out of bounds every time. CCH seemed to struggle with Cecil's scrambling ability, as was to be expected.

I also heard that the CCH O line did very well and that allowed the CCH recievers to really get going.

I WILL be at the next game in Park Hills. Another legendary game in this series, just as last year, 01 and Mud Bowl along with many others.

Good luck to both teams in 2 weeks.

I saw the game on tv and didnt keep count but its hard to believe that Flynn made 17 tackles. ( someone must be generous ) Does anyone else think that Kramer was little under-used in this game? The first half in paticular.

Flynn didn't have his typical amount of tackles and was relatively quiet, I'm sure that will change in 2 weeks.

Flynn played football at CCH with my son, when he played jv.He should be near 400 tackles. Heck shouldn't be to tough, when you play high school football for as many years. The lost stinks... Win the big one Birds.

Classy post Brown. I think that says a lot about Flynn that he has been a 4 year letterman. "The lost stinks", who is lost?

Flynn only had 8 tackles, 3 in the first half. Kramer only under used because CCh keyed on him all night.

While Flynn didn't have as many tackles as was attributed to him by a poster, he still had 8 or 9 which is still extremely good. For obvious (at least to those who know me) reasons, I spent a lot of time watching him during the game and on tape afterwards. He played a very good game and in my opinion is one of, if not the, best linebackers we have played against this year. I am sure he will be determined to get even more tackles in two weeks and sure that the people assigned to block him will be equally determined to make sure he has less tackles. Should be a great rematch.

Much will be posted about what adjustments the coaches will make for the rematch. My guess is little. On offense, both teams went to their strengths: Highlands running the ball and CovCath passing the ball. Any adjustments will have to come on the defensive side. But when you examine what can be done to stop the opposing offenses, I really don't see much that can be done. If the Birds put too much emphasis on Bovard and Sutton, it opens up the run for CovCath and they can run it better than most think. They just don't run it as well as they pass it. Put too much emphasis on stopping the pass, and they will run it effectively enough to win. Someone mentioned making sure Sutton does not get off the line. Problem with that is Peter is bigger and faster than any one we'd put on him. And if you try to double him on the line, it weakens the other aspects of your d and CovCath will burn you there.

Same goes with adjustments by CovCath's D. They did a good job on Kramer, but in doing so, allowed Cecil and Conner to run. If they slack off on the attention to Kramer to focus more on Cecil and Conner, then Kramer will burn them. My guess is that they'd rather let Conner and Cecil get running room than Kramer. No dis to Conner, but if that had been Kramer that got open on those two long runs, he'd have taken it to the house. With it being Conner, he was able to be caught and in the case of the first run, we ended up coming up with zero points on that drive, so it was a game saving tackle. Plus as Highlands somewhat but sparingly demonstrated, they can pass the ball when necessary. If CovCath makes too much of a committment to stop Kramer, Conner and Cecil, they will get burnt by the pass.

Thus, I really expect both teams to come out and do pretty much the same thing they did this past Friday. Both teams played well enough to win and any major adjustments by either team may backfire dramatically. Sure they will be some minor adjustments, but I think both teams are going to go with their strengths on O and not make many big adjustments on D.

Interestingly enough, and its not been commented upon on here yet, but the biggest factor in determining the outcome of the game may have been the coin toss. CovCath got the ball 4 times in the second half and scored on all 4 possessions. Two field goals and two touchdowns. Birds got the ball 3 times and scored touchdowns on each possession. If the Birds had gotten the ball first in the second half instead of CovCath and gotten four possessions to CovCath's three, based on what how the second half was played, looks like the Birds would have won. And no I'm not making excuses for the Birds loss. Don't have to. We played a heck of a good football game against a good football team and got beat at the last second by a pass that probably 8 out of 10 times is unsuccessful.

I'll not respond to the coaching criticisms. I don't agree with the criticisms but bashing one another on here won't change anything other than cause problems. On to South Oldham boys. If you want revenge, you first have to beat the Dragons. Lose to them, and you won't get the chance to avenge the loss.

This was probably the best post yet on this game. No bashing of anyone or either team. Just a great observation and interpretation of both teams. Very refreshing. Thank you.
