WHAT!!!!!

Spent my first 27 years living either in or within 1.5 hours of Philly, and eating Cheeseteaks all over the Greater Philly area. Mayo and mustard are NOT acceptable condiments for a real cheesesteak. If it’s a cheesesteak hoagie, THEN mayo is fine. But never mustard.

I can’t even fathom putting mayo and mustard in a regular cheese steak.

I was introduced to it at Geno's. They had the mustard and mayo mixed together...

To me, bread can make or break a "sammich"

I start with a nice piece of sourdough, lightly toasted.

Add two pieces of swiss cheese. Add lots of roast beef and a little bit of Turkey. Top roast beef and Turkey off with a sizable amount of horseradish sauce.

Smother it together and consume.

Some say this sammich may need some decor like a tomato, onion or green things. To this I say "no sir", keep it simple.

I used to love the old K Mart sub's. I think they had salami, bologna, ham, American cheese, onion, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pepper rings, mayo and mustard.

I love bologna sandwiches. I like them plain or with any combination of the following: Plain white bread, bologna, cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, green olives, pepper rings, salami, smoked turkey, ham, mustard and mayo.

I'm with you on the tomato, lettuce, and onion thing. While I like all of those things, I don't want or need them on a deli sandwich. The only exception is on an italian sub, which sadly around here, you cannot get one as good as they are in the Mid Atlantic States (PA, DE, NJ).

While I don't allow myself to eat bread anymore for health reasons (have lost 45 pounds in one year achieving normal blood sugar levels by giving up grains including rice, pasta, and cereals), I have to agree with you here that a good sandwich begins with good bread.

I've never been more certain of anything in my life considering the ups and downs I have experienced with my health. Losing weight typically was never easy for me, and as a diabetic my blood sugar was typically out of whack, but when I fully committed to this I couldn't believe how fast the weight disappeared and how much my diabetes medicine lessoned to very little.

With this said I know that I can never again slip back into old eating habits, or I'll just end up right where I started, so this means no bread.

I really really really had to give it up cold turkey, or I would never have gained any ground by going at it half way. While I truly believe that grains are unhealthy, I have to admit that I on occasion miss it, and on occasion allow myself to go ahead and eat the bun once in a blue moon when having a burger or something, but it's really now just an exception to the rule because I now know better.

My weight is now at an acceptable level and I exercise regularly, so that one bun every once in a while will get worked off the following day, but I used to eat bread daily, and to the point that I just couldn't keep up with it. I'm not thrilled to admit that I bend the rules on occasion, but am happy to be able to say it's not very often.

I promise any of you out there who just can't seem to get the weight off, or control your blood sugar that if you simply follow no grains, and no additional refined sugar you will be stunned by just how fast the weight drips right off of you.

Tavern ham, American cheese, lettuce and mayo on white bread.

Very basic for me.

In college we used to make fried bologna sandwiches for tailgate at the fraternity house. Have you ever tried it fried?

Fried bologna is the BEST bologna.

Fried bologna is the BEST bologna.

Once you eat fried bologna, it becomes very hard to eat cold bologna again.

Never had it but that sounds excellent. I'm not a tomato fan so I'd probably replace that with a chunk of lettuce or something to counter the butter and bacon. I'd say I'd give it a try one day but unfortunately I really doubt I can find soft crab in this area.

If you do, don't eat it.

Absolutely. The blacker the BOLOGNA the better. I used to like to melt a thick slice of block Velveeta Cheese on them. Noticed I said them as in multiple sandwiches?

Not I. I once picked up a huge t bone steak from Alamo Steakhouse in Pigeon Forge and took it back to our rental cabin. I cut into it and say a bit of pink in the middle of the steak. I threw it in the fridge and made a couple BOLOGNA and cheese sandwiches instead. Bologna and Vienna Sausages are two of my favorites.

Hoagie roll, turkey, pepperoni, cheddar and Swiss cheese. Dill spears on the side
