Massachusetts baseball team wins game 82-0, coach is ‘sick to my stomach’ about it

At first it would seem as if there was some poor sportsmanship on behalf of the winning team and coach. However, they seem to have done everything possible to stop the onslaught after scoring 12 and 20 runs in the first two innings. Coach inadverdantly scheduled game against the much weaker of two teams with the same name when his team needed two additional games to complete their schedule.

I wonder why they wouldn't call the game at some point?

There was nothing preventing the losing team from forfeiting at some point, either. Their coach continued to let them play even though they were clearly out matched. In fact, didn't the article say that the losing team's athletic director was content with how the game unfolded? So I don't put any part of this outcome on the back of the winning coach, at all.

The kids were there to play baseball. They let them play baseball or call the game off. Notice that nobody is cancelling the second game. Maybe we should just stop keeping score. Nobody's feelings can be hurt, they can play until dark, and everybody can go out for pizza after the game.

Why didn’t winning coach just work on everyone bunting?

He did, losing team couldn't make routine plays to get them out. Short of telling them to intentionality swing and miss (I think that should never be done) I'm not sure what else could be done. They stopped at first on 300 foot hits to the fence, jogged between bases and even took pitches trying to strike out but were walked.
