Put the bats on your shoulder. If they walk in 82 runs, then so be it.

Losing team could've ended this game anytime they wanted. They chose not to. Did I also read that they have another game scheduled against this same team and aren't planning on cancelling?

 

If they don't care, why do we?

 

I definitely put some of it on the losing coach, too.

I can’t imagine how long this game took to play.

 

Blowouts suck for both teams. If I’m up, I empty the bench, don’t take extra bases on passes balls, put kids on the mound that haven’t pitched much, mix up positions, etc. I do not tell my team to look at pitches, strike out on purpose, walk off the base etc. I call off the dogs, but keep playing the game. If I’m on the losing team, I’m pushing my kids to keep playing hard, but at some point, if there’s no mercy rule, I’m ending the game.

If I am the losing coach, I am not calling the game. I understand that its a blowout and embarrassing, but part of sports is teaching kids to give their best effort even during tough times. Too many kids in this generation aren't taught how to take a loss. I don't know about everybody else but I have setbacks at work everyday, and somehow find a way to motivate myself to go back the next day. While there are teachable moments in all things, there is no way that team is on my schedule for the next year.

Agreed, I also think this cant be an isolated game. Meaning they probably take multiple big losses like this in the year, from what I read this team is not good at all.

 

I would assume from the get go (by the way things read) the losing coach told his team early in the season to not look at the scoreboard and just play each inning as an inning, and each at bat as an at bat.

A blowout is 20-0.

 

An embarrassment is 82-0.

 

There's a big difference.

 

My daughter plays middle school softball. Once the lead reaches 20 or more, the winning coach has his girls step off the bag intentionally for automatic out. I know that isn't the same rule as baseball but there are options to win soundly, but not win by 82 runs.
