April 22, 20188 yr I put most of the blame on the coach of the losing team. At some point early you just say "we're done." You don't put your kids through a beating like this. I believe if I were the coach of a winning team in a blowout like this where the other team can't pitch/catch/get an out with me stopping my players to one base I'd just have the batter run until he either gets tagged out or he scores. I think it would help the losing team. It would look poor to the average fan but IMO it would end these innings faster.

Wouldnt that be bad sportsmanship to do those things and not play the game honestly.

Specifically when you have the change to teach them about perseverance.

April 23, 20188 yr We have that in Ky. As others said, not for baseball, although I've been part of a couple of games (both as a player and coach) where both sides agreed to stop playing at the end of the third inning when the score was larger than 15 runs.

April 23, 20188 yr Again, I'm usually in the "run it up camp," but IMO you can't claim that you did everything to keep the score down when you win 82-0... I won't say it was unsportsmanlike, but if you were REALLY concerned with the score, there seems to have been other options.
April 23, 20188 yr He did, losing team couldn't make routine plays to get them out. Short of telling them to intentionality swing and miss (I think that should never be done) I'm not sure what else could be done. They stopped at first on 300 foot hits to the fence, jogged between bases and even took pitches trying to strike out but were walked. I typically agree, but it's clear these teams had no business on the field together. Put the bats on your shoulder. If they walk in 82 runs, then so be it.
April 23, 20188 yr Losing team could've ended this game anytime they wanted. They chose not to. Did I also read that they have another game scheduled against this same team and aren't planning on cancelling? If they don't care, why do we?
