One thing has been made very clear - no one cares about the character of the President. Bill Clinton was blasted for his character issues and won two elections. Donald Trump's character flaws were on full display during his election and he was elected. I think Trump wins again the next election.

 

People care about policy. Whoever they believe can put their policy choices into action, they will vote for. Conservative Christians love Trump's Supreme Court pick. That actually may have been the number one campaign promise that helped Trump win the last election and he can play that again in the next election. Trump himself said during the election he could shoot someone in the middle of the street and still get elected and he is probably right. If Trump promotes policies the right likes, even the conservative Christians will overlook his character.

We need a strong 3rd party or more true independents. The blind and unwavering loyalty to your party is how you end up running Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Trump as a presidential figure is a failure. Trump's policies are not. Some of the things he has done, I am fine with.

 

Deregulation - If there is anything that has been a boon to the economy under Trump, this is it. I believe government has become too intrusive and an impediment. For me, this has been the biggest success of Trump's administration.

 

ISIS - No, Trump does not get full credit for "defeating" ISIS. He continued policies that Obama already had in motion. But he did continue those policies and he deserves some credit for the success against ISIS.

 

Economy/Stock Market - This is another item where Obama was having success. However, Trump's favorable business policies (deregulation) and his tax cuts have increased the economic growth of the 8 years before Trump took office. Average GDP growth Obama's last 4 years was a little over 2%. Trump got that up to 2.3% in his first year and it will likely be 2.7-2.8 in 2018. Give Trump credit for adding another notch up to the economy.

 

Trade - I do think Trump is making moves that will be positive on the trade front, and he is bucking his own party in these actions.

 

The shame for Trump is all of his other shenanigans drive the media coverage of his administration and over shadow the positives that are happening.

Haven't I been preaching this about a 3rd party. Please step up and be bold. Don't follow the $$$ of the 2 major parties and the lobbyists. Then people will speak when you show them what you stand for.

It is definitely rare to see an incumbent lose, especially in the presidency. It's only happened the one time since Carter. But I think Trump is likely the most divisive candidate put out there in a long, long time.

 

But I've been blatantly wrong before. I remain shocked to this day that GWB was re-elected.
