I was not fortunate to have played HS FB, as my school didn't have it when I attended. So this is all observation. I have attended a game at Gallatin Co., though, about 5-6 years back. I'm glad they've got permanent lights. Trying to photograph under those generator-powered lights was a nightmare.

I’ll just list my two favorite places for coaching.....

1. Hank Evans/ Ivan McGlone Field in FLATWOODS v. The Russell Red Devils.

2. Putnam Stadium..... especially with the OLD visitor’s locker room. Ashland Tomcats.

Hope I can coach a game in each before I die. Love those places. I love a great opponent and have huge respect for the Red Devils & Tomcats!

With you all dropping down to 3A in 2019 (and assuming that playoff cross bracketing is still in play), a Russell/Mercer County game at The Hank is a possibility in the near future. It might not be a likely scenario, but it's more likely than it would have been otherwise. Also, with the new alignment beginning in ‘19, Russell should have a few openings on the schedule. Maybe something could be worked out? That would be a lot of fun.

Imagine the storyline for that game… A long time rival coach returns to Flatwoods for the first time in several years, this time at the helm of the program that bested the Red Devils for the 2006 2A championship, breaking the hearts of thousands of maroon and gold clad Russell fans. And after Russell wins (because this is my fantasy, so of course we win), the cover of the Daily Independent will read, “Revenge is a dish best served cold!”

Good stuff.

From far WKY, to the big city schools in the Lou./Lex./NKY triangle, to the deep, dark hills of Harlan County... That's a really good, well rounded list. Of the places you haven't been yet, does anywhere stand out as a must see, bucket list destination?

I agree that a Mercer - Russell series, outside of travel, would be great. My youngest son will be a freshman this fall. It would be awesome if he could play in Flatwoods at least once like his big brother, Neal Pawsat, Josh Harris, etc! Those are great memories for our family.

Interested enough in this question to take the time to research my answer.

I've seen events in 83 different high school venues in KY, 5 in TN, 3 in GA, 1 in FL, and 1 in Ohio. The vast majority of HS venues I've visited in KY have been west of I-75. I have also seen HS games at 7 colleges sites (Ky Wes., Lindsey Wilson, WKU, Old Cardinal Stadium, Cardinal Stadium, Georgetown, and UK).

The Top 10 Stadiums- just personal preference, in no particular order

Russellville, Trousdale Co TN, Manual, McCracken County, Bowling Green, Stadium of Champions, St. X, Mayfield, Trinity, & Owensboro.

I've seen 5 different KY schools play at multiple "home" fields- Christian County, Butler County, Logan County, Edmonson County, and Warren East (5 different "home" venues).

Let's hope we all get to add to our list in 2020!
