I work with many many millennials and I am the parent of two, both of whom have millennial s/O's. Not one of the millennials I personally know are as you describe. The type of people you describe are not primarily of any one generation.

 

Please describe in a paragraph ALL of the millennials that you know.

I generalized based upon a comment from another, that they like flexibility in their job, they like to be entertained and they want to make a lot of money.

Never heard of it till this thread.

 

There was some big article floating around social media back in the summer that said that millennials don't have enough money to buy a house because they eat to much avocado toast.

I'm with you on this one. With a bride that is a hairdresser, you had better have an appointment to get in with her. She has an app and if you call her directly she can check her schedule and fit you in. She knows what time she is planned to be getting done and if she wants to add you late into the day she will. It's not a matter of how many people are in line or may have checked in electrically. than again, she is not charging $7.99 for a do either.

My barber uses an app called Booksy. That's how I schedule my appointments.

Seriously. I don't understand why people don't take advantage of things that are available that give you benefit.

 

Some things like Facebook and twitter I don't use because I'm very private and I also don't much care what the heck other people are doing. MrsC on the other hand is a big Facebook user. She's in all kinds of groups and she enjoys it.

 

Check in apps, UBER, Lyft, movie and TV streaming, hi tech, etc are all me. MrsC couldn't care less. She has me do it, but she enjoys the benefits.

 

My house is a smart house and I did it all myself.

 

My kids show me all the app stuff and I decide if I want to use it. They turn to me for all the other tech stuff, because that's what I enjoy.

 

I'm older than most on here, younger than a few, but utilizing technology to your advantage of saving time, money, effort, etc is what today's world is all about.

 

I quit trying to resist change a long time ago. I've found it's better to embrace it, and utilize the parts that fit me.

 

I'm looking forward to retiring in the next couple of years. Setting up smart houses will be one of my side hustles.

While I don't think it is something that they have "ruined" per se, I do think there is something that millenials are missing out on...and that's the "live" experience. They'd rather watch a sporting event or concert or something else through a 2"x5" screen on their phone, than with their own two eyes.

 

I get it. I've done it myself, thinking that I'll be able to go back and re-enjoy the moment. But, I never have. Sure, I may have shared it on Facebook or something like that. But, in all honesty, I've been to some concerts where I wish they would've banned phones. All you keep seeing is people holding their hands up so they can get a good shot above the people in front of them. They aren't enjoying the concert, they're trying to get a good pic/video so they can brag to their friends.

I go to a ton of concerts, and I used to do exactly as you explained. Then I realized: Nobody cares about my pictures. And I rarely looked at them again. These days, I hardly ever take any pictures at all. What you cite is far from limited to millennials, though.

 

Off topic, but Jack White has banned cell phones from his shows from his upcoming tour. Several standup comedians have done this for the last couple of years, requiring you to put them in the pouches when entering and have designated areas where you can use the phone if needed. I think it's a trend that will continue to grow over the upcoming months and years.
