Millennials have ruined........

Featured Replies

Boy I disagree, I think it's great. I too have been doing things old school for 60 years but thankfully my kids have slowly been teaching me new ways and it's resulted in a much better use of my time. I sure hope I'm not checking out for another 25 years but whatever time I have left I don't want to spend it waiting in lines.

Or complaining about waiting in lines, especially when there's something very simple I can do to avoid waiting in lines.

I must be a traitor to my generation. I'm a Baby Boomer. I use apps to make online reservations. :sorry:

Read the story MJ. ... I also said it with a question mark at the end. C'mon. If you're looking to pick a fight/argument, you'll have to find someone else on here.

I read the story, I fail to see anywhere that would indicate millenials are lazy.

The silent generation came home from World War II, built the greatest economic engine the world has ever seen, and the strong public institutions necessary to keep it running.

They handed the keys off to the Boomers, who promptly crashed it into the first bridge embankment they could find.

Thus far I haven’t been overly impressed with the GenXers attempts to right the ship.

You’ll forgive me if I’m less than impressed by grandstanding over Millenial malaise as those of us at the older end of that age group look at what lies ahead.

I can't like this nearly enough.

The topic is about what Millennials have ruined.

In my opinion the check-in online is a prime example.

Doctors appointments, making reservations at restaurants which take them, and walking in to eat at a chain restauuant or get your hair cut are two entirely different situations. UNTIL everyone is required to check in on-line and that is the only option, I consider it discourteous for someone to consider their time more valuable than mine. The reasoning of those that advocate this is present day young folks thinking. I'm there in their building, waiting to be seated, I don't want to be shuffled farther back because someone else has hit a key on his/her smartphone while still at home and thinks it's perfectly OK, to show up, walk-in and be seated in front of those folks who are already in the building. YES, I very much consider that inconsiderate, and I will never resort to doing it, and if I would, I would feel compelled to apologize to those whom I am displacing.

Old school mentality??? Obviously

Living in the past???? Absolutely.

Backwards??? Probably.

Resistant to change??? No Doubt, IF it benefits one class and not for the common good - you betcha.

BUT this is what I hate about Millennials.

There is always going to be a line. You are not making that line any shorter.

If you can't get there and wait your turn you are very much making the statement that "I can tweak the system, and take advantage of you, because I am smarter than you, or more tech-savvy."

Another case of just because its out there, and it makes YOUR life more convenient, doesn't make it right.

Your gripe is against the equivalent of a reservation.

Yep. What he's failing to grasp is that online check in IS the restaurant taking a reservation.

The people checking in online aren't cutting line like you are insinuating. Their wait time is simply in their car driving to the restaurant while yours is spent sitting in a rocking chair outside. If they are seated before you, it's because they checked in before you.

Classic present day thinking!!!!

Thanks for making my case for me.

The irony is that if this option weren't available, the converse argument would be "Millennials spend all day standing in line because they don't have jobs."

Yep. It seems to me that many old people simply don't respect the younger generation, because we've found different ways (sometimes better, sometimes worse) of doing things.

I just don't see how it's selfish of someone to check in online, especially if it's something that's available to everyone. More than likely, that person "checked in" well in advance of you arriving, possibly even hours or days ahead. If they checked in after you had entered the building, you'll likely get waited on ahead of them. I'm not sure how I'm being discourteous to you by "checking in" the day before and reserving a time specifically for me. Why should you get served ahead of me if I had the forethought to book my time before you even walked into the building. I'm still waiting my turn. I haven't cut in front of you. You're in fact trying to cut in front of me. I just choose to wait while I'm driving, instead of in the building. Time is time....what's the difference as to where you wait?? How is checking in online different from checking in in person?? And the people taking advantage of this, are making the lines shorter, because people are doing the waiting elsewhere. The folks not taking advantage of this are the only ones experiencing long lines. You're getting angry about a problem you are creating for yourself.

Great!!! Then put it on a level playing field and make everyone check in on-line, not only those seeking to gain an advantage.

I fully realize that unless Goldie and Oldercoach, etc., chime in, I'm fighting a losing battle here. You are taking advantage of something that is provided for you and in your minds eye, you are simply being smart and efficient. We are the dumb asses who do things the old, but still accepted way, and are being disadvantaged by those who consider their time to be more valuable than ours.

Cracker Barrel doesn't take reservations, but you are telling me that by back-dooring the system, they really do.

My (old and antiquated) opinion is that it should be all on-line check-in, or all get yourself in the building and in line. Until this is the case, I will only dine at such venues during non-peak hours when there is no line period, or realize that if I choose to go during prime-time I am not only going to have to wait in a line, but must be prepared to be "bumped" by the new tech-savvy, what's in it for me, and screw you generation.

That's been happening forever.

You do understand that if you already have your name in line, someone that checks in or does call ahead after you doesn't jump in front of you. They are given a time based on wait times when they check in.

I'm curious if you share the same opinion on restaurants with drive-thru windows that also accept call-in orders. You phone your order in and you can be in and out while the people in the drive-thru are still waiting to order.

Is it just the technology that is the problem?
