I would enjoy this seasons Cov Cath peeps, its downhill from here I think for Cov Cath as a whole once things get going.

If you watch St. Thomas Aquinas and other Florida schools, they have players play both ways quite a bit. They aren't true "Ironmen" but they are in rotations on other side of the ball. True platooning in high school is overrated.

 

I agree. Covington Catholic played 5 or 6 guys both ways last year but not every play. Players got entire series off at times to stay fresh. It keeps your best players on the field as much as possible without wearing them down. That is what Beechwood has done for a long time. Also, Beechwood has very few starters on special teams to give the key players rest.

It’s still CCH, they might not be invincible this year but they will be solid.

South Warren will be the top team in 5A this year. I predict they win 5A this year. I am officially all in on South Warren.

I would have to agree on BG being heavy favorite. I think QB experience play a factor but also CC lost a lot of starters

How about Trinity steps up and gets rid of 60 percent of their enrollment/talent pool so they're the same size as Covington Catholic and can play in 5A. That way we can truly see what they're made of.

I think CCH is going to be one of the top 3 teams in 5A, along with Bowling Green and South Warren. Tough to say which one of those three is THE top team. I suppose the king is king until he's been de-throned.

SW only had 8 seniors on their team last year and half of them didn’t play. They lose Winn at RB, Byrd at Safety and Jackson at CB/WR. Other than that they don’t lose much. Give me SW at #1 unless CovCath is bringing back AJ Mayer.

That's an interesting discussion. CCH put a running clock on South Warren in the semifinals last year, but three quarters of CCH's offense came on passing. They lose a lot of that offensive power with AJ gone, but we'll have to see what happens with the new quarterback.

Truth. Not getting the defense off the field on 3rd Downs doesn’t help at all. There’s no doubt in my mind that they’ll be much improved on offense and defense. I’m already hearing some great things about how much better Spurrier looks as well.

It might be. South Warren just lost a 7 on 7 to Warren East. I still think they are the favorite to win the title, though.
