Exactly my point. These statements are nothing more than fodder for discussion. I will take my chances in saying that Highlands will not end up 3rd or 4th in that district in just about every year, no matter who the coach is.

You make great points and to the amazement of some on here I will have to agree with a lot of what you are stating.

 

Now of course you are looking in from the outside which is ok and I am ok with your opinion but the reality is the talent is there so everything else you have stated is spot on with the exception of the talent thingy and dropping to 4A.

In my opinion, Highlands these next 3 years will start looking very good again. And I believe it because the talent will be better. I know for years you all use to just tell people to work harder. Yet ignored you all had more talent than the teams you beat. These last couple of years when they stepped on the field they weren't definitely the most talented team on the field like most of the past 15 to 20 years. However the to be senior, junior, and sophomore classes. Do have a lot more of that top talent you all use to have. So I do think you all will start looking better again and better top talent and not just good talent is one of the reasons.

While I think Highlands will be much improved starting next year because of the talent coming up. I do think you all will be much surprised how tough that possible district will be if that ends up being the district. It wouldn't be just you all and Covcath running the show every year and winning pretty handily over the other teams in the district like you all use to do is past districts. Would be a lot of close games that could go either way imo.

The thing that makes no sense here is the talk that playing in 5A or 4A has some sort of effect on Weinrich keeping his job. Not real sure where exactly that is coming from or how it is being perceived.

 

Many close to the program have said it more than once, the results are an issue, but the biggest issue(s) have to do with how the "little" things were being done or in some cases not done at all.

So you say take the "easy" road and play in 4A versus the "hard" road which is stay in 5A. I can tell you that the consensus in the Fort would be the latter every day, all day. Never has been nor will it be the way that Highlands football does things.

Then don’t complain about what the team is doing and who is coaching them because like I said before...it isn’t 2009 anymore and schools all across the state have learned how to work harder and have caught up with the Highlands football program. There is only one true top dog now. Dale Mueller wouldn’t win a title at Highlands in this current 5A climate.

Even if they play in 4A, I would think they would still have basically the same schedule they have now except for the district games. That's why I don't think there would be a tremendous difference between being in 4A or 5A. They are still going to schedule the same teams and come playoff time, there will be a few elite teams whether they are in 4A or 5A. I don't have a dog in the fight so it doesn't make a difference to me. I just don't see much changing going from 5A to 4A.

I think they have a more realistic path to success in 4A and contrary to popular belief it isn’t an insult to win in the class that you belong in. You don’t get a bigger trophy for playing up in competition in the playoffs. All of the championship trophies are the same size.

 

I’m interested to see what happens and the results. 5A is going to be a lot of fun to follow.

 

I’ll also add that IMO it makes sense to move up in class when it is proven that you are too good to play in the class that you belong in. It’s hard for me to be for Highlands moving up to 5A when they are no longer even proving that they can be a dominant team in 4A.

BW and his entire football staff knows what kind of effort I am talking about because quite a few of them did it for multiple years while under Dale. It is an absolute ridiculous commitment that pays about $1.25/hr once you do the pay per hour thingy. I challenge anyone of them to say that they gave 100% over the last 3 yrs.

 

Perhaps the message was delivered loud and clear recently and perhaps the light finally went off which will change the culture but only time will tell. It will be very obvious to those that are interested and watching.

 

If this coaching staff and kids put the time and effort in that is required and they succeed then good for them and the program, if they put the time in and don't succeed then you won't hear me complaining or pointing fingers. To me if you do your job at a program like Highlands and do it to the very best you can, it becomes contagious and all of the little things will take care of themselves.

It's also going to help that the talent the next few years coming up will be at an even higher level than the past years. I'm sure you will say its because of the stuff you mentioned for why they do better. Imo it's also going to help because the talent the next few years will be higher than the previous few.

With this logic they need to play in 6A. Why play in the lower 5A class if the best challenge is 6A. You make it sound like playing in 4A is beneath Highlands.

 

This should not be about the "we play up" ego.

 

Both the players and coaches should be given the best opportunity to succeed against schools their size around the state. They should schedule 5A and 6A schools thru the season to get them ready for the 4A tournament.
