January 4, 20188 yr i read a story on KSR yesterday that a lot of former Louisville players would like to see Kenny Payne be named the Cardinals basketball coach for next year. I would like to hear the thoughts of our resident Louisville fans. What are your thoughts on Payne? Would you like to see them stick with Padgett? Bring in a coach with a proven track record?
January 4, 20188 yr Be hard to get Mack if they are slapped with a few years of probation and reduced scholarships
January 4, 20188 yr I want Chris Mack. And that's who Louisville will go after. He'd be near or at the top of my list if Cal were to leave UK. Would be huge if Cards could land him.
January 4, 20188 yr In regards to Payne, why? Why would you hire anybody on that level? If that's what we are reduced to hiring, keep Padgett and let him work it out until he succeeds or you can get someone else. Regardless of what has happened the past two seasons, Louisville is above permanently hiring career assistants with no HC experience.

January 4, 20188 yr Chris Mack & Greg Marshall would have to be at the top of the list. If they're gonna go the no HC experience route, they'd be best served sticking with Padgett IMO.
January 4, 20188 yr Not that it would even be considered because of priors, but Bruce Pearl w/o the baggage would liven up the commonwealth

Regardless of what has happened the past two seasons, Louisville is above permanently hiring career assistants with no HC experience. That's the route I'd take probably. Let Padgett ride out the wave of additional sanctions and then go after some top talent. Probably the best case scenario for Padgett too.
January 4, 20188 yr He would absolutely listen if Louisville called. They could/would more than double his salary. If I'm Mack, I use Louisville to try and sweeten my deal with Xavier, knowing full well that he isn't leaving for Louisville at this time.
January 4, 20188 yr I don't know anyone that would turn down $5 million per year guaranteed for 7 years. Regardless of probation. Gregg Marshall will certainly be a top candidate, but his wife is going to make getting a high profile job a bit challenging. Her deal would be a nightmare in Louisville, where the Cards are the NFL / NBA team all rolled into one.
January 4, 20188 yr Be hard to get Mack if they are slapped with a few years of probation and reduced scholarships 1.5 mill a year, vs 5 mill a year... not that hard.
January 4, 20188 yr Any sanctions that come down, the school can work with. The cloud of an investigation is much tougher to deal with. That’s my big worry. I understand that Louisville is about to get slapped and $5 million per year cures a lot of that. But the endless investigation and not knowing how many scholarships you might have the next year will be a real pain and can make a coach back off.
January 4, 20188 yr 1.5 mill a year, vs 5 mill a year... not that hard. Over $2 Million, but your point is the same.
January 4, 20188 yr Honestly.... I would love to see David Padgett finish strong and remain. I really, really like him (double check with me again in late Feb/Mar to make sure, lol). I really like John Brannen (NKU – another of my homer favorites) too – it would be awesome to see how he would do at a school like UofL. Very curious to see what happens!
