T did OK this fall too, 1st in FB, 2nd in CC, 3rd in golf, and soccer got knocked out by eventual state champ (X). Last year T ended X's season in all five of the biggest team sports (football, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse). Top to bottom who has the better athletic program? Don't know, don't care. They both do what they do very well. Football is probably too high profile in the grand scheme of things. T & X will be neck and neck next year in cross country, but it won't generate pages upon pages on BGP or multiple articles in the C-J.

In discussing the game with friends (half T & half X) pretty much all agreed that X played well in the first half and it felt like they should be within a score of T. But somehow the Rocks put up 35. X basically did not capitalize on having better field position, gave up a couple of big plays (though they scored on 2 big plays themselves) and - most importantly - were not able to keep T from getting the ball back in the final minute of the half which resulted in another T TD. That game really could have been 28-21 or even 21-21 at the half. And X outscored T 7-3 in the second half (though T ran out the clock in X's red zone.)

Just a little more Food for Thought.

Did you have a problem when St X brought in a transfer quarterback from Memphis and gave his dad a job on the staff to secure his services? Or how about a transfer running back from Manual who is the reason X got by PRP in the playoffs.

 

More Trinity students transfer out of Trinity and play HS football elsewhere, than transfer in.

Time to put this game in rear view mirror and start working towards next season. St.X should have a very good team next year and I’m sure Trinity will too.

Transfers are up all over. T or X don't have the corner on that market. Try following some of the talent that was at Doss basketball a few years back and see where those players went. Kids get yelled at by coach or loses playing time, kids want to transfer, happens more and more today, especially in urban areas.

I thought that was a huge turning point in the game. X was backed up with not much time in the half. They threw it 3 times and took no time off of the clock. They had to then punt it back to T with good field position. T scored to make it 35-15. Fortunately for X, T did not capitalize and make it worse by scoring on the first drive of the second half. That kept X in the game just a bit.

After watching the rebroadcast I do have a question for some of the folks that are involved in officiating the games. Is there any kind of review or grading of the officials after these games? There were a number of calls where you might disagree with the call and others where they flat got it wrong. Perhaps the most egregious was the first play from scrimmage. They called illegal man downfield on number 52. I'm not sure what they saw but it sure wasn't that. Look at the replay at the 29:02 mark. He retreats into pass blocking on the snap and is in the end zone when the ball is thrown. The other linemen are also visible in the shot, so it isn't a case of getting the number wrong.

Yes I do. And that was a really bad crew - not favoring either team just bad for a 6-A state final.

I would give that crew a C- at best. I have never officiated a game so I guess my grade doesn't count.

I’m sure they didn’t get everything, but in my experience they get more right than wrong. Out of all the penalties a PI and an illegal man downfield appear to be the biggest dispute...so 2 calls. Sounds pretty good to me.

I'd also add in some late hits. Those have the potential to let the game get out of hand if retaliation starts. Fortunately, I didn't see any retaliation. I had an opinion during the game but kept it to myself because usually when I look at the film I find that there was a basis for the call. This time, it was worse after I saw the film.

Ok, so one call. You believe the game was badly officiated because of one call!

 

The reason it was an Louisville officiating crew was because they wouldn't throw a penalty flag every time there was a "late hit". A crew from a different area throws flags on those "late hits" and it drastically effects the game.

 

I guess you can add this to my excuse list.

Sports fan, i believe trinity is heads and shoulders better than X in basketball. As a matter of fact, i think Trinity is also way ahead in basketball wins in the series of games played against Saint Xavier.
