If Danville and Boyle County win it all...

Featured Replies

17 so far.

Well there's definitely a place in Kentucky with more than that. With longer sustained success.

A questions Ive had since I was in highschool and Boyle was starting there run under Smith and am just to lazy to look up. Is it usual for the County school to be in the same city as another public school? If you live in Danville do you have to go to school there or can you choose Boyle Co? How far apart are the schools?

I think you're stirring it Deuce. :lol2:

You know the truth is it's hard to find such a place in KY per capita.

How is that for a definition? :thumb:

The schools are a little over a mile apart. 2 miles at the most.

There are very specific maps of where you have to go to school. One side of the road can be Boyle and other side can be Danville. I have a child in each school system

The schools are about 2 miles apart. Danville is on Lexington Avenue on the east end of the city. BCHS is on Perryville Road on the west edge of the city going out of town. School Districts are honored but under usual guidelines anyone can attend city or county if they petition to transfer in. Of course that doesn't mean the school will take them or they will be immediately eligible.

Just pointing out facts. :lol2:

Danville/Boyle Co. earned the Title Town name back in the early 2000's and I'd imagine the residents there will always refer to it as that. As they should.

Well said Hatz.

I think it is a unique setting, the small town of Danville with two schools that have had great success in high school sport and a historic small university that has a claim to some success. I will willing refer to them as Titletown for their success and for the fact that I like the story.

I'd say there are few areas in the state that have a setting that could equal Daville's argument, not many small towns with two high schools. Not that they have the number of titles, but Paintsville is one town that has two high schools and could have a run to make the argument for the title, Titletown.

And there is also historic Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) that actually has had some history of past success in their fields of play. If you could have seen the Hamilton Brothers (Oscar and David) in the 70's they could have played football or basketball for any team in the state.

Anyway you (or I) slice it, it's pretty cool for Danville and Boyle Co.

I'd imagine that when Boyle was built in 1963 the area around the school was extremely rural and could be described as the "county" where as today it has grown up quite a bit and isn't really much different than the "city."

You are correct. 1979 there was nothing but a corn field around our practice field. Lots of places for snoopy eyes to be watching from!

There is a lot of work ahead for both Danville and Boyle to win their games against really tough opponents. That is why I see this post as being very premature. On the question concerning city limits and school district boundaries, the following is usually the case. Cities can change their boundaries and city limits by simply annexing surrounding area where they will provide services such as sidewalks, sewer, fire and police protection. School district boundaries almost never change, unless the city independent districts chose to become a part of the county school district. Hope we can still have a title town thread after Saturday.

There is no rule that says "There can be only one Titletown". It is a mythical award based on several vague factors like geography, proximity, championships, and any other variable you wish to include.

We like it down here in Boyle/Danville and we choose to call ourselves Titletown. You can agree, disagree, care less. It doesn't really matter. If you want to be a Titletown, then go be a Titletown. We here in Titletown are pulling for you.

I can tell you the Danville Mayor and Boyle County Judge Executive are hosting a press conference at 3:15 to boast on Titletown and wish both programs good luck.

In my mind, that makes it official......Titletown, KY!
