Imo biggest and baddest OL was in 2008. Big and insanely mobile. This team this season, making it to the finals is as suprising as the 08 team not making it. Worth noting though, that there are 2 major factors from that 08 team on the staff now in Logan and Denton. Just some of the many that helped pave the way for this group of over achievers. I absolutely love seeing former Rams being allowed to come back and pay back to the system what they got out of it.

I know I'm partial, but I would put the 2013 offensive line up against anyone. Yes, the 2008 line was pretty darn good and talented. But, all five offensive linemen in 2013 garnered college scholarships. They averaged 6'3" and 270 lbs. and were very talented across the board, all five of them. But, I can't argue much with anyone that thinks 2008 was good.

I have watched a good amount of film. My response to people who have asked how good Raceland is this. In my experience, when a team gets to the title game, they are a worthy opponent. End of discussion. Teams that get to the title game are often, bigger, stronger, faster than they look on film. Raceland is a very good and well coached team that is in the title game for a reason.

 

From the film, Kentucky Country Day looks better but games are not won on film. Raceland looks big at the line of scrimmage but I don't think their linemen have the athleticism Beechwood's big linemen have. I give Beechwood the edge, especially Beechwood's defensive front against the Raceland offensive line.

 

Overall I think the description I have seen by some on here of Raceland as a gritty, blue collar team is a good description. There isn't anyone or anything that catches your eye immediately. They are just a very solid TEAM that works well together.

 

I expect this to be a tough battle. Both teams have excellent swarming defenses that will make it difficult to score. I think Beechwood has more threats on offense and that will be why they score more than Raceland. I am having a hard time seeing how Raceland will score on Beechwood. I am not going to guess the margin of victory in this one but I see Beechwood as a solid favorite.

T-minus 48 hrs give or take to the big game!!!! I am so excited to back at a State Championship game that I can’t contain myself!! Go Tigers we are so proud of this team and what they have accomplished so far. One more big hurdle in the way The Raceland Rams!!!!! Safe travels to all and can’t wait to watch this live!!!!!!!

Raceland can compete with beechwood but the team that played against Paintsville in week 3 or the playoffs is the team that needs to show up. Even though Raceland won against Pikeville they allowed to many rushing yards in my opinion. They need the defense that held Paintsville to 64 yard on the ground instead of the 151 to Pikeville. They will also need to not have any turnovers that give Beechwood good field position. I also think they will need to throw more than 5 passes to beat Beechwood as I expect there defense to stop the run better than Pikeville. Raceland also needs to keep there play calling simple and not get cute( as I’ve heard a few posters over the years say).

 

Raceland also needs to keep the Beechwood receivers in front of them and not let them beat them deep. Beechwoods Quarterback is accurate and if he gets time he will find the open man. Raceland needs there defensive ends to have a good game. This game will be a dandy if they come to play but if Beechwood gets them down early I hope they don’t quit. This may not be the best Raceland team they’ve had but there is something special with this group that separates them from the others. I myself not being real familar but I want to credit there staff for making these kids believe..

I definitely agree, Bac. Raceland needs to be balanced on offense. I can't see Beechwood losing to a team that's one dimensional.

 

They also can't make big mistakes. No turnovers, no breakdowns in kick coverage, no busted coverage, etc. The Tigers are already good enough on their own, they don't need you to help them out with a bad snap over your punter's head. Raceland's got to be sharp in all three phases.

RACELAND Tradition-rich Beechwood doesn’t have the only state championship game experience in Friday’s Class A football title matchup with newcomer Raceland.

It only seems that way, with Beechwood seeking a 13th title.

Twelfth-year Raceland assistant coach Mark Lewis recalled his first days on the staff following a highly successful 33-year stint working alongside legendary Bob Lutz at Ironton. The Fighting Tigers advanced to eight state finals in Ohio, winning titles in 1979 and ’89.

 

 

“The kids ask me about that all the time,” Lewis said. “When I got over here, that’s all (the coaches) talked about. My first thought was, I’ve been in eight of them and they had not experienced this opportunity.”

Wow ....by this thread / poll I guess that the citizens of Raceland / Worthington along w / the parents of the Rams players should storm the school, Superintendent's office and demand that Raceland forfeit and not even make the trip ! I mean, if our Rams are going to get beat up that bad then maybe the risk of losing so many kids to what sounds like the physical beating of a lifetime and a vast majority of the Rams will be in the near by U.K / Chandler Hospital's ER.......:scared: :isurrender:

Of course the above was in joking about what is an obvious overall opinions that Raceland has no chance. I will say that if "bulletin board material" makes any difference, (which btw I don't think that it does), that Raceland has plenty of material.

 

I do know that one Raceland player has told me that they, as a team, are Sick of being Disrespected by every news outlet and / or school out there but they are used to it ....Paintsville, Pikeville fans radio, media and press did the same. This Rams team is as Unified as a TEAM more than any I can recall and I have been around since the mid / late 60's. That's not to say others haven't, bc they have. Just that these guys are focused, "P'd" off but in control and ready to go.
