Castleman has 4 INT's and McKenney has 5 INT's, but what is understated here is Beechwood's Secondary as a Whole. McKenney led the State last year(All Classes) in INT's and got little to NO Action all year due to the respect factor. Castleman, Mescher and Massie roundout a very elite secondary. Raceland will pass, but after watching film, will more than likely shift to running with passing mixed in. (At least they should!) Either way those guys are some dawgs and want the Back to Back so, so bad!

All during the 2000s, Raceland has had much hight and girth at the offensive line positions.

Imo biggest and baddest OL was in 2008. Big and insanely mobile. This team this season, making it to the finals is as suprising as the 08 team not making it. Worth noting though, that there are 2 major factors from that 08 team on the staff now in Logan and Denton. Just some of the many that helped pave the way for this group of over achievers. I absolutely love seeing former Rams being allowed to come back and pay back to the system what they got out of it.

Brother, none of us orange blooded, die hard, ram fans could hardly get a grasp on this team this season lol. All we know is that in this post season, the TEAM, has far exceeded out expectations and realistically, we never thought theyd be here, so there are some of us that arent goina be realistic with our predictions either. Tbh, some may disagree, but after the 80s and 90s, theres no other team Id rather see us meet up with in our first finals appearance.

 

Side bar...does anyone know of, or can even guess or estimate, how many times a team has won a state title in its first trip? Only one I can think of in recent years, is Mercer Co over Russell in 06.

As for the first paragraph, I 100 % agree with all that you said. Your key word was "Team" ! At mid season and riding at 4-1 with the only loss to 4A Ashland ...came back / back losses to two good teams in Ports. West, OH. and 2A Sommerset, then Paintsville a couple weeks later. Losing 3 of 4 football games at Raceland just doesn't happen and sure doesn't sit well here. Right at that point, maybe an old fashion "Revival Meet'n" woke this Rams team up and imo they ironed out a couple of problems just in time to get on the roll that they still are on.

Raceland is playing with confidence right now that's not the "arrogant" type, rather the "Refuse to Lose" mentality. I am probably the longest standing Rams bgp'r along with Ram, and whatever "IT" is, this Raceland team "Has It" !

I full well know the history of Beechwood / Raceland in the post season bc I was personally there at every one of them. I even agree that here is no logical reason to pick Raceland bc the stats / numbers just aren't there. Having said that ....that's what Paintsville "thought" in the region 3 championship game as well as what Pikeville "thought" in the 1A semi final and that's what an overwhelming number of people / fans of Beechwood and frankly, some Raceland fans are "thinking" now ...That Raceland has no chance of winning.

I know one group of people that believe that Raceland can ... uh, No , Raceland Will Win and that is the ones that matter the most, the 2017 Raceland Rams Football Team, along with our coaches !!

Raceland is possibly the only other team in 1A that I've seen (watching highlights and such) that plays with the hard nosed aggressive edge that Beechwood does. This is why small school is so much fun to watch. You have running backs that hit like linebackers, because thats their other job! wide receivers who fight for a ball like a defensive back because they have been taught and have experience in both! I see this a lot in raceland. Their offense plays downhill and mean because of the way they play on defense. I think beechwood does a lot of the same things. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner ends up being the only team to break 20 points. Defense wins championships as well as getting the job done in the trenches, and both raceland and Beechwood seem to have very good line play. Good luck to both teams! should be a good one!
