Tbh, if Raceland can sustain drives that result in points, they can win. I picked them, but I am realistic in seeing the task ahead. What Raceland cant do, is fall behind by two acores early because then the route will be on. If our defense is on the field for 2 1/2 quarters we will struggle. But if can come out like we did in the 2nd half for 4 quarters of ball, the state semi final hump wont be the only hump we get over this year. If not, it will be a long day.

The Rams have waited a long time for this opportunity. I can't imagine any scenario where they roll over and play dead for the defending champs. I have no doubt that Raceland will show up and leave it all on the field. But, will that be enough to overcome Beechwood's advantages in talent and championship experience? My gut says no. I sincerely hope that my gut is wrong.

 

Raceland can't be content to just be there. They have to stay hungry. They have to be defiant and not accept the role that most will try to cast them in… the role of cannon fodder for Beechwood.

That Beechwood defense has been very stingy as of late, giving up just under 6 ppg over their last eight. Offense hasn't exactly been Raceland's strength this year, especially in regards to putting together four full quarters on that side of the ball. Like @STEEL_CURTAIN88 said above, Raceland's got to find a way to sustain some offensive production and keep it close early. If the Rams fall behind and have to throw the ball to get back in the game, that plays right into Beechwood's hands with the great secondary they've got with McKenney, Castleman and Co.

I don't see a blowout here. Raceland has played a tough schedule. They have beaten the best the east side has to offer, including a Paintsville team that many thought could beat Beechwood. Raceland plays great defense and that will keep you in games. They lost to Somerset by 3 and Beechwood only beat Somerset by 7. Beechwod is the favorite but probably a 10 point favorite and anything can happen.

I agree 100% with anyone saying Raceland needs stay close in this game. Once Beechwood gets a team down by a few scores the other team starts to press and that when Beechwood’s defense feasts on others passing games. Last night was a good example of that Campbellsville fell behind early and had to throw and Beechwood’s secondary absolutely took control. I feel this game will stay close early but if Beechwood can figure out the Raceland Defense I think can win it going away in the second half. If Beechwood can’t solve the Raceland Defense like most people haven’t it could be an interesting afternoon at Kroger Field. I am looking forward to this game. I will post my score later in the week still can’t get a good grasp on Raceland yet.

This should be a great game, but I believe Beechwood is on a mission! Defense is what will get the win this game. Beechwood has one of the states best DB's in McKenney a real hidden gem. Derry(Beast), Castleman(Another Stud), Heist, Mescher and Massie are just a few guys that want this real bad! Hats off to Raceland 1st apprarance in there school history! I got the Beechies tho.

Brother, none of us orange blooded, die hard, ram fans could hardly get a grasp on this team this season lol. All we know is that in this post season, the TEAM, has far exceeded out expectations and realistically, we never thought theyd be here, so there are some of us that arent goina be realistic with our predictions either. Tbh, some may disagree, but after the 80s and 90s, theres no other team Id rather see us meet up with in our first finals appearance.

 

Side bar...does anyone know of, or can even guess or estimate, how many times a team has won a state title in its first trip? Only one I can think of in recent years, is Mercer Co over Russell in 06.

Gee, thanks for bringing up that '06 game, 88. :no: Just to balance that out, Russell won it in their first attempt in '78.

 

CAL won it last year in their first appearance. I would guess quite a few have won a championship on their first try. If Raceland is able to do it next week, it'll certainly be one of the more memorable ones, IMO. Despite what the poll says, I get the feeling that most people outside of NKY are pulling for the Rams.

Heck, if you listen to them guys go back and firth up there lol, you may be suprised!haha
