November 22, 20178 yr Great-Granny did up some fried chicken the last time she cooked for Thanksgiving which would have been around '98 or so. Never has a Turkey Day meal tasted so good. Sides are unimportant when there's dark meat on my plate.

November 22, 20178 yr Not a big fan of the holiday with the exception of seeing the family. Too many people. Sitting at a crammed table trying to stuff all the food onto a plate. I'd rather just pick at the food all day and not worrying about the sit down part of the meal. I like the traditional turkey, a little bit of gravy, some oyster dressing in remembrance of my father along with Mashed potatoes. cranberry sauce is gross. I may slap some green beans on the plate if they look decent. And if my sister in law remembers to bring them, a dinner roll or two. Pumpkin pie with a ton of whipped cream on it later in the evening.

November 22, 20178 yr My daughter is hosting Thanksgiving for the first time. This menu is perfect! She is making the Turkey & rolls, Sister Schuberts My mom is making candied sweet potatoes (hopefully without marshmallows ) and Pumpkin pie. One of my sisters is bringing green beans. My nephew and his husband are bringing a pecan pie I have made: Mashed Potatoes Homemade Sage Cornbread stuffing Cranberry,Apple, Orange Compote (with a little extra allspice that I got at an awesome little Bodega out in Okolona) Broccoli casserole Deviled eggs Roasted Brussels Sprouts I am now trying to get up the gumption to make a lemon bundt cake. November 23, 20178 yr This is all traditional. I started yesterday. Made stock for broth out of neck, giblets, wing tips and neck. Cleaned the house and set up area and got plates, flatware out. Today was prep. 2 sisters come and we cook and talk. Smoked Salmon log made, Fruit salad with cooked dressing, prepped turkeys, 1 for frying, 1 for slow roasting. Cornbread dressing and sage stuffing are prepared and in the fridge, as is broth. Tomorrow. Put turkey in oven. Peal potatoes. I will fixed mashed potatoes, gravy. Others will bring salads, greens, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs and pies. I love the meal, but mostly, I love being in the kitchen with those I love. With guests, I think there will be about 25 of us this year. We watch football and play Euchre in the afternoon. Oh BTW, it is tradition in our family for the men to clean up though we clean as we cook too.

November 24, 20178 yr I just had it (all day); cooked for others and ate with some special folks. We ate like kings, but it could have been baloney sandwiches. It's the people around the table, not what's on it, that makes all the difference.

November 30, 20178 yr You could give me a stick of pepperoni, a box of crackers, and a beer, stick me in front of the TV watching football, and I would be a happy man.
