Week 8 AP Poll!

Featured Replies

You won't find a disagreement with me there ... but I don't think I have ever seen a top team receive so much negativity when it comes to a schedule.

Try being a Warren East fan (though I would not be so bold as to call us a "top team")...I believe East and JC are birds of a same feather. When they play the BG's of the world, the score's going to end up around 41-0. But much like JC, East has averaged 51 points per in each of their other 6 games.

I totally agree they have a very soft schedule ... I just wish that some people would give them some credit for totally destroying every team they have played this season. Instead, people like to think that any decent team in the state would be able to beat these teams the way JC has.

I don't care how weak you think their schedule is it's hard to beat teams 49-7 every Friday espically when the J.V. team plays the second half.

Will the weak schedule hurt them come playoff time? Will they know how react when put in a tight game situation? Just wondering how people feel.

I would bump Cov. Cath. up above Lex. Cath. and JC, in my oppinion due to their tough schedule along with some closely played games to big teams.

CovCath plays a tough schedule and is good every year but why would you put them above LexCath? It would seem to be important to win a tough game to advance in the polls. Now if they beat Highlands, I would agree with you. LexCath got blownout by St. X in their first game with new coaches and a quarterback who took less than a dozen snaps in games when it counted prior to this season. They have advanced in the polls with solid wins over some pretty good teams, Scot County, Franklin County, East Jessamine, and have steadily climbed back up in the polls. I think the two are very close and don't see how anyone can justify one being better then the other at this point.

When was the last time a "top team" played such a soft schedule?

I would say that Mercer County's schedule would rank right up there this season

That's a good question. I will say this year's team hasn't played anything that has even resembled a close game.

But we must remember a lot of these kids on this year's team saw significant playing time last year which included the barnburner against Ashland and other games that were much closer than any of the games this year. So many of them do have expierence in tight game situations.

The AP is and has always been horrible.

There are about two maybe three voters that have a clue Statewide. The others should have their ballots taken away.

Too much homerism and too many vote for regional teams that don't really belong in a statewide ranking.

In the Class A rankings, Frankfort, Pikeville, NCC and Somerset all out of the top 10 loop..WOW..thats hard to believe. I have nothing against the Harlans, Russellvilles and Racelands of the world, but, I'd take any of the afformentioned 4 against those 3...

Only ONE set of rankings matter at all to ALL 7 of the teams mentioned (all but ONE of which I've seen in person; and all VERY good football teams)...

...that would be the rankings that come out around Dec. 4.

SamHam, I guess you are saying they will beat Beechwood in the final game to win the district. I am saying that Beechwood wins the district which matches HC/NCC in the first round w/NCC winning.

Just my opinion.

I totally agree!!

Interesting that two or three years ago, there was a vocal Pikeville poster or two blasting the BGP rankings because Pikeville wasn't ranked while singing the praises of the AP poll and claiming the BGP rankings were biased in favor of certain regions.

I wonder what they're saying now.

The "changing of the guard" isn't all that obvious yet ... Johnson Central didn't even win a playoff game last year. Bell County and Rockcastle County, the current "royalty" in eastern Kentucky 3A, haven't yet been knocked off the throne.

I agree with you westsider...it's one thing to be rated above some of the big boys in the 'all-so important' AP Poll. Start winning the ballgames against SOLID TEAMS when it counts and then maybe, jusy maybe Johnson Central's brass can start bragging about that No. 1 vote they received.

Until then enjoy the high ranking...and get ready for the playoffs.

No one including myself in this thread was bragging about the first place vote, I was just stating that they received one. Who knows maybe this year we can beat some of those "solid teams" "when it counts", and justify being rated high in the "all-so important" Ap poll.

Playing some solid teams in the season, is a really good indicator if you can beat the solid teams, sometimes trying to in the post season is a little to late to see what needs worked on, good luck to the goldne eagles though, I wish them the best.

JC still has to play a very good Ashland team and a Mason Co. team that played Ashland very tough.

JC still has to finish the season out against two solid teams. It's not like they are finishing the season with two Pop Warner teams. I really think the game against Ashland will be a good indicator of if we can beat solid teams.:D

Your post just confirmed the point most people on this board have been making, no one has said that JC is not a good team but they have to prove it. After they are tested then we will all know if they are for real, but until then they're still a giant question mark. I wish them the best and hope to see them vs the Rock in Round 3.

I don't think many people have ever shyed away from the fact that JC has played a weak schedule so far and that they still have a question mark by their name. I haven't, JC has the next two game to either shut people up and gain respect or fold like they have before and make the critics voices louder.
