Even as a JC fan I have to question Johnson Central being ranked above Covington Catholic. I think that we are a solid #4 but I think that Bowling Green, Highlands, and Cov. Catholic are heads above everyone else at this point. JC has yet to have the defining win but has a chance to make a statement in 2 weeks. Its nice to see JC getting some love but I have to question how anyone could give us a #1 vote right now.

Granted Ashland is not a Highlands or Bowling Green but is a top 4 team in Region 4 so a 3-4 touchdown margin win should serve notice that this team shouldnt been taking as lightly as it is right now due to its strength of schedule.

However, I think a lot at Johnson Central and perhaps elsewhere in the state are over looking Ashland. Raceland is a solid team, should Ashland have gotten beat by them? Thats an argument for another day. Belfry, 2 out of the last 3 2A state championships were won by the Pirates, and is my favorite to win the crown this year. Russell, 2005 state champs, and one of the best running backs in the state. Mason County, a solid 3A program and Very underestimated, The Royals will be in the hunt for the District I assure you. With this schedule the Tomcats have rallied to a 6-1 start, the best since 1990. A 3 or 4 touchdown win for the Eagles?

In no way Im I saying that JC is going to win by 3-4 Touchdowns. I just believe in order for JC to be considered above Cov. Catholic they need at least that margin of victory. Im not overlooking Ashland in any way, shape, or form and I would be happy with a win against Ashland no matter the margin of victory but to answer some of the critics I believe JC needs to win big. There is going to be alot of emotions and energy in this game from both sides which can be either good or bad. I believe this game will be all its built up to be and should definately be worth the price of admission.

Looks like the race in 4a is who is the best team outside of Lou. and Lex. looks like the Marshall/Christian County game will decide that one.

The Massey Ratings have Johnson Central's schedule as #41 (out of 53 teams) in 3A. It's rated lower than half of the 2A teams. It wouldn't even be one of the 10 toughest schedules in Class A.

Nobody is struggling for anything...the schedule is terrible. The only winning team on it is Class A, 4-3 Paintsville.

The "Obvious" is obvious in your first statement. They in fact play a very weak schedule. I am not saying they don't have a very good team but the "obvious" is not so obvious in your second statement. The changing of the guard??? Their path in the playoffs will most likely include Ashland, Rock or Bell, Highlands or Cov Catholic, and potentially Bowling Green. Even if they have a good run this season I would not consider that the changing of the guard. It takes season after season of success to earn respect.

 

I am not on either side of this continued discussion of NKY vs. JC, and I said this a couple of weeks ago. If the JC fans on this board want respect then they are just going to have to bide their time and let their talking be done on the field each Friday night for the next 6-7 weeks. I personally hope to see a JC vs. Rock matchup since I am a Rock alum, but both teams have a lot of business to tend to before that can happen. JC fans be patient and time will tell.

This is a bold statement with the new playoff format, considering there is a large possibility that they will be the higher seed in their first game.

In the Class A rankings, Frankfort, Pikeville, NCC and Somerset all out of the top 10 loop..WOW..thats hard to believe. I have nothing against the Harlans, Russellvilles and Racelands of the world, but, I'd take any of the afformentioned 4 against those 3...

 

I don't have any problem with the 2a rankings other than maybe moving those same 10 around a bit...

 

3a looks pretty good too, but, I still have a hard time with Hopkinsville in there ahead of Franklin Co.

 

4a is a complete mess...Apollo at #9...Theres not a team behind them I think they would beat...Marshall maybe a Low Top 10 team at best, but, more likely in the 11-15 range and probably behind Henderson,WCentral, Christian and Owensboro in there own region, much less against the rest of the state..

SamHam, I guess you are saying they will beat Beechwood in the final game to win the district. I am saying that Beechwood wins the district which matches HC/NCC in the first round w/NCC winning.

The "changing of the guard" isn't all that obvious yet ... Johnson Central didn't even win a playoff game last year. Bell County and Rockcastle County, the current "royalty" in eastern Kentucky 3A, haven't yet been knocked off the throne.

I heard the AP Poll is drawn right after the Kentucky Lottery numbers and they use the same drum and numbers.
