I don't think many people have ever shyed away from the fact that JC has played a weak schedule so far and that they still have a question mark by their name. I haven't, JC has the next two game to either shut people up and gain respect or fold like they have before and make the critics voices louder.

Unfortunately for the JC fans the critics will not shut up even if JC wins the next two games but it sure would be a step in the right direction. They are going to have to make a pretty deep run into the playoffs to get people's attention. Best of luck the next two weeks. I went to the Rock before they were any good so I feel your frustration.

In the Class A rankings, Frankfort, Pikeville, NCC and Somerset all out of the top 10 loop..WOW..thats hard to believe. I have nothing against the Harlans, Russellvilles and Racelands of the world, but, I'd take any of the afformentioned 4 against those 3...

Only ONE set of rankings matter at all to ALL 7 of the teams mentioned (all but ONE of which I've seen in person; and all VERY good football teams)...

...that would be the rankings that come out around Dec. 4.

If im not mistaken Russelville has won a state title since Pikeville last won one.

Russelville won in 90, the yr after Pikeville 3 PEATED but I don't understand what you are getting at. I will agree and take the 4 mentioned against the other 3.

In one aspect, you are right. Ashland is barely a top-10 team, if at all. Mason County is not.

Johnson Central is, in my estimation, a legitimate top-10 team, but they still have yet to prove it. Beating Ashland and Mason cements their top-10 claim, but not necessarily any more than that.

If Johnson Central is as good as some of their fans think they are, they will be in the final four and give either Highlands or Covington Catholic a battle.

I agree with you westsider...it's one thing to be rated above some of the big boys in the 'all-so important' AP Poll. Start winning the ballgames against SOLID TEAMS when it counts and then maybe, jusy maybe Johnson Central's brass can start bragging about that No. 1 vote they received.

Until then enjoy the high ranking...and get ready for the playoffs.

I don't believe that the Johnson Central "brass" care what some media types think about its football program, nor do I expect that they will be bragging because some small town sports writer cast a first place vote for the Golden Eagles. As of now, Johnson Central has won as many playoff games this season as any of the four defending state champions have won. This current team has nothing more and nothing less to prove than any other 2006 Kentucky high school team has to prove.

If I remember correctly, Les is probably still upset that Matney didn't send him a roster on time last August ;)

Its true everyone is starting out 0-0 in the playoffs. However I disagree with you on your last point. It is obvious to me that this team, this community, the fan base has a lot to prove because they DO care what the perception of Golden Eagle football is throughout the state. Evidence is contained in many many BGP pages over the last few months.

Read any JC thread, and it is as plain as theguru's crew cut, they are looking for respect, almost clammoring for it. They know they have a dangerous team, and they are wanting to be included with the elite teams of their class. But they have to win to prove themselves worthy of it. They do have more to prove than a Highlands, a Cov Cath, a Lex Cath. And that may not be a bad thing because I know Coach Matney will use it to their advantage.

I disagree with you on your last statement... I don't think to be considered as good as some of our fans think we are we have to give Highlands or Cov Cath. a battle.

To be considered succesful JC doesn't have to turn into a Highlands and win a state championship every year. Just because we cheer on our team and our excited about the year we are having this season doesn't mean we think we are the cream of the crop in 3A football. Heck, Highlands and Cov Cath would beat any 4A school besides the big 3. Not saying JC wouldn't or couldn't beat Highlands or Cov Cath, I just don't think succes should be measured by whether or not you beat Highlands or Cov Cath... Westsider your team must have some pretty high standards if that's how you measure success.;)

You are dead on there... Coach Matney is a heck of a motivater.

Did you read my post? I said nothing about beating Highlands or CovCath ... I was talking about them being competitive with those teams.

I don't have a team, and you're putting words in my mouth.

No not mad at all. Matter of fact, Watusti, you're dead wrong. Have nothing against Matney or anyone from Johnson Central. The people I've talked to on here from JC are really nice people.

For you being an administrator, I'm kinda shocked you would make a statement like that when it's not a fact.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth... you just seem to have a firm opinion on JC and a very negative one at that.

Have you ever seen them play?

How does the acknowledgment that Johnson Central is "a legitimate top-10" team constitute a "very negative" opinion of them?

I'm simply stating, like others here, that the Eagles are good, but that we won't know how good until they start playing a steady diet of quality teams.

Gotcha! :thumb:

Did you notice the winking smilie? ;)

I was just kidding with you because at the time, you were a little bent out of shape about it. I figured the wound had healed and it was safe to joke around a bit. Now I am not sure.

Please accept my apology if I touched a nerve, it was not intentional.
