Running Clocks and Blowouts

Featured Replies

I think if a kid is willing to practice and play football in today's world he is a winner in the long run. Too many kids are "too busy" to put in the time and effort to participate in a true team (not just me) sport such as football. The journey far outweighs the results of any one game as long as your journey was all about striving to be a champion. I think that journey can help propel you to bigger things down the road. Congrats to all the teams who get to continue their 2017 football journey.

I think this blowout thing is blown way out of proportion.

Just play, baby.

A life lesson includes learning that you are always not the best. There are winners and losers. Not everyone needs to be in a playoff game and get a trophy.

Only 6 teams out of over 200 are getting championship trophies. No one learned better that there are winners and losers than that list of losing teams from last night posted above. All of those teams have experienced the highs of success and last night they experienced the lowness of losing and having a season or career come to and end. Every one of the teams above and many others in the state have learned your life lesson in the past 3 weeks.

Last week a team came to our stadium and lost by 56 points. The questions that should be asked are:

Was one team really that much more physically gifted?

Did you as the losing team prepare over the last several months for this moment?

Was that truly your best effort?

Were you physically conditioned?

Were you mentally prepared?

It appears the answer to each question is no.

If that is the case some things better change because life is waiting. And life will beat you way more than 56 points.

Julian Tackett thinks 12 champions may be way to go.

Probably because this topic comes up numerous times every season on this site and others. This topic has been beaten to death time and time again.

It's High School football folks! Just enjoy the ride and let these kids grow and learn life lessons. It's the best of times regardless and the end comes way too fast.

Amen! Enough already with this topic.

How many teams got to say each of the following lines at the end of the season?

Hey we made the playoffs 192

We were district runner ups 48

We were district champs 48

We made it to the regional 48

We were regional champs 24

We made it to the semis 24

We made it to the finals 12

We were state runner up 6

We were state champs. 6

We never made it to the playoffs. 28?

I personally think way too many teams make the playoffs versus those that don't . It's not even about the blowout factor. those games happen.

Yes a lot of teams can say they made the playoffs. But I don’t exactly hear anyone claiming success with a 1-9 season that ends with a blowout loss. Players, coaches and fans are all smart enough to realize that it’s a combination of things that determine how successful you were. Everyone making the playoffs hasn’t ruined anyone’s life, or led any kids down the wrong road. Nobody keeps or remembers participation trophies that so many here despise. And while football can help teach life lessons, well, just living life does a pretty good job of that too....otherwise the vast majority of the world that doesn’t play football wouldn’t have a chance. Regardless of what football teaches, most kids already know how tough life can be. I feel like we want to make football (and other sports) more important than they really are, in order to justify its importance. We should spend more time just enjoying it for what it is...a fun game to play and watch, and stop attaching all this higher purpose stuff to it. Let the kids play ball and enjoy while they can...everything in life doesn’t have to have a lesson attached to it.

Danville was criticized for trying to put LCA on a running clock late the other night. I didn't mind the decision.

When not all basketball teams make the playoffs, then come back and see me. Until then, I don't see why people complain about kids getting to play football games.

I agree TBG. I dont understand why people get so worked over kids getting to play football games. LOL But it sure does bother them alot.

I just figured up the total number of hours that kids will work on getting thier bodies better from now to dead period June 25th.. It was 209 hours. 209 hours not to mention the practices in the summer and season just to play 10 games. Basketball and Baseball get to play 35 to 40 games. Not to mention the things they give up just to make those workouts.
